I finished reading “Access Denied”, turned out to be a pretty useful material. The book is not overly technical – there’s no easy way (if there even is one) to make a good research on the equipment that’s used in the filtering and the exact way it’s used, but they’ve described the main methods from the standpoint of the user in almost all countries with some filtering, the topics, the law base, etc. (they’ve skipped Turkmenistan and something else).

Especially interesting was the part about the filtering in Europe and North America – the principles of filtering with takedown notices are well described… I have the impression that almost everywhere there are laws against some “hate” ideas (like holocaust denial, nazis, etc.), I wonder if we’re not going overboard in paying attention to a small group of idiots.<\/p>\n
