I was thinking on writing something on the stupidities of ICANN, new domains, etc., but I don’t feel like getting angry. It’s really showing that one of the main supporters of this is Veni Markoski. The way it’s going, we’re going to have an ITU of the Internet.<\/p>\n
So I’ve been thinking on writing a bit on music. Not only I have a pretty messed up taste, I also have the ability to listen to something for a thousand times and to obsess horribly, so it also happens that I collect a few versions of the some track. I’ll mention them, as they’ve had some influence on me (and the psychiatrists agree). So:<\/p>\n
First is Triad by Tool from the Lateralus album – one of the songs that inspires me to get a bass guitar. There aren’t a lot of versions of it – mostly concert ones and a few pretty bad amateur ones. But that’s one of the things I find myself drumming in a lot of moments (like after sex, on the girl (it’s not that good rhythm for sex otherwise :) ) ).

Next one is Orion by Metallica, from Master of puppets – I have the album version I’ve also found the concert version by Dream Theater, the one by Rodrigo y Gabriela (on classical guitar), and the live version from Rock am ring by Metallica with their new bass player. It’s also one of the reasons for me wanting to get a bass, and it’s pretty nice to try and play it in some pipe somewhere (I get weird looks in the bus while doing that). <\/p>\n
Then it’s White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane – it’s pretty recent, I got it from The Simpsons (it’s there three times, every time at a pretty drug-related scenes… Weird, it’s also in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but I haven’t paid that much attention to it there). I’ve found the version by Collide, a remix of that one and the version of Sanctuary. I should look for a concert one, there should be at least a few… And the song is the most drugged one I’ve heard :)

Misirlou – mostly known to people like the soundtrack to Pulp fiction, written somewhere in 1927, re-arranged for electric guitar around 1962 by Dick Dale (you can find easily in YouTube one of his performances from 1963), after which it’s being done by a lot of groups on different occasions (I’ve listened to Hipodil playing it live a long time ago). There are also versions by the Surf Coasters (Japanese, really good) and Mermen, both of which I’ve found in archive.org (live recordings, good quality). There’s also a difference in the way Dick Dale plays it now (who, for my astonishment has been playing in the last 40 years). I’ve also found a few versions with the old arrangement, also sound interesting.

“My Kingdom” by Future Sound of London, from Dead Cities – really beautiful track, maybe somewhat connected with my childhood memories of Ennio Moricone’s music (e.g. the OST of La Piovra). The versions I’ve found are only remixes by FSOL themselves, one EP with 5 tracks which (maybe without one :) ) are really worthy to be listened at a calm and a quiet place.
\n(it might be possible to rearrange this for bass, drums, flute and something else, I wonder how will it sound…)<\/p>\n
“O Fortuna” from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff – there are a lot of ways it’s been played, by a lot of different people. I can’t think of all the versions I’ve heard :)<\/p>\n
YYZ by Rush – some years ago Mictor gave it to me, on a Tribute to Rush. I’ve found the original and the version of Dream Theater, pretty nice instrumental :)<\/p>\n
There are a lot of other things that I’ve played a lot, but not with this kind of passion :) I’ll just mention “In da gadda la vida” na Iron Butterfly (mostly the cover by Bling Guardian), California uber alles by Dead Kennedys and I’m too lazy to dig for more …<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
