A few points... I've read the last few entries in your blog, looked at your homepage, and then took a better look at the abbreviated advice. I think that there is either misunderstanding, or you're trying to drive people away:) The thing I'm designing is a general purpose tool. It's there to be used to implement whatever you want over it. It doesn't exist right now, there is a (IMO) need for it, judging from the discussions here and at some more places (notably a editorial at LWN, and the stuff people at FOAF are doing). I don't want to implement a general purpose social network that has it all - what I'm trying is to give you a screwdriver with a socket for different subtools to connect. I'm not designing the whole kit :) And there is something interesting about your reading list. First, it looks like cut somewhere in 'S' (the last thing there ends with 'A graph-theo'), it has some duplications (Mintz, B. & M. Schwartz. (1981)., and the same thing with a little different layout after one line), and to be honest, it looks like it was designed with repelling people away in mind. There are 459 papers/books/articles there, and if they're about 50 pages average, that's 22950 pages, with with my reading speed in my native language is about 229 hours, and with my reading speed in English - 459 hours, which is about 3-6 weeks of non-stop reading (or may be a little less, I've done such marathons, but then I had dreams exclusively about what I was reading). And the list looks like taking some books and papers, taking their bibliography, and the bibliography of everything there, and then stripping it from some of the obviously not related books. Heck, if I asked for pointers in graph theory, would you dump on me everything by Dijkstra, Floyd, Hamilton, Euler, etc. that had anything to do with graphs, or will just tell me about MIT's Algorhytmics , the volume of "The art of programming" by Knuth that talks about it, and some online pointers for future reference? Excuse me, if I sound too rash, I just feel treated like a ignorant idiot, that gets slapped with a list to get him away from something that you're sure he'll fsck up...
