Openfest 2007 – 1
by Vasil KolevTwo lectures are in progress in the morning, and I’m at the reception of Openfest, blogging…
Saturday I managed to get up at about 6:40 (after my phone rang a few times and I dreamed once that I’m getting up), after which we went to the Military club to put cables, equipment, etc, as the night before there was another event and we had no way to do it then.
So a few people were sent to pull the cables, I crimped the jacks and positioned the cameras and the whole thing was ready by the time for the lectures. In the video recordings there are a few small problems that I fixed in flight, next year I’ll put some more time in the preparations and the tests…
My lecture wasn’t too bad (at least not as bad as last year), I overdid (with Delian’s help :) ) myh time with about 20 minutes and it could’ve been more, if I’ve decided to cover the topic seriously… From the things I left out were some details on IAX2, on T.38 (which would’ve prompted a lot of remarks from chervarium), the problem with echo cancellation and a lot more… This is what happens when I try to put one course in one lecture.
(one of the results of the lecture was two hours talk with Ceco of Spnet on the topic of ISDN and telephony in general).
I attended only one other lecture (which is a record for me, in principle from work and nerves I don’t attend lectures at evens in which I’m part of the organization), the one of the Wikipedia guy on how do they manage to work. Really great lecture, especially the idea of ‘general availability’ instead of ‘high availability’, how their databases are on RAID0 and how they don’t have a full backup strategy :)
In the evening we filled Krivoto and had a lot of fun (Peio said they got hammered pretty well), I got home at about 22:00 at home to sleep… This combined with the daylight savings time helped me sleep enough and to wake up without the phone.
Sunday morning the equipment, etc. was installed for about 10 minutes and everything started working normally. I’m even thinking to lie under a table and read my book.
