by Vasil Kolev… and some rest from the “books” tag.
In the last few days around a project we’re making we needed to visualise two schemes from a database of ours. First it was hard to find good software for this – most of them didn’t work well, pulled out strange stuff, etc., so I finally used DbVisualiser (a commercial application with a trial version, written in Java. The situation is that bad…). After which a few drawings were generated, which turned out to be humongous, so we had to print them in Maniaprint in Studentski grad (btw, I would’ve loved to have some tech guy there to tell me what’s the best wasy to give it to them, as there were a few gaffes), so the end result is two A0 pages and two that are as wide as A0 and about three meters long.
Mine network drawings look miniature next to these (I’ve gotten up to A2, just with better density).
Otherwise it’s the standard madhouse around, although the head doesn’t hurt as much (e.g. I don’t have the urge to shoot myself :) ). I can’t join the lectures in the course at FMI and I’m definitely not getting myself into another such course in the near future – definitely I lack the time for it.
I’m also swearing a bit at “Capital” for running such laughable and obviously paid-for articles. It could’ve been at least a bit more competently written…
(Some years ago there was the idea to make courses for journalist on technical topics, maybe they could understand the stuff a bit better, but in this case even this wouldn’t help).
(it wouldn’t make an impression on me otherwise, but “Capital” is one of the things I read regularly).
