2008-12-10 Daria

by Vasil Kolev

I have about 3000 pages of books to read (at least), and instead of reading them I’m watching movies…
(I’ll try doing this not in the usual sparse style, as Irina says – “The weekly book report”)

My excuse is that I was watching Daria – series that were spun off “Beavis and Butt-head” and that definitely have nothing in common with it. It’s about a girl that’s smart, sarcastic, cynical, unpopular and in spite of all this ….

Whatever. Watch it, it’s pretty good :) Full with ideas, developments, things you might learn. No laugh track and no need of one, you can pick for yourselves the fun stuff. It also features some pretty good music (as it was made by mtv and they put tons of stuff in it). I have to admit, I never expected from mtv to do something so good.

Well, I’m a bid biased, as the main character is the kind of woman I like, but don’t let that stop you :)

And a quote, just to give you some idea:

Mr. O’Neill: You’re being judgmental, Daria. And you know what they say: Judge and you get mental.
Daria: And you know what I say.
Jane: Life sucks and then you die?

(and Mariela should feel really guilty for giving me the bass tabs for Schism, because that’s in my head in the last days and I’m always trying (in a really incompetent way) to play it. At some point I found myself in bed with the laptop, bass, a screwdriver and a hexogram, to do some fine tuning…)
