2008-04-30 boxes of books

by Vasil Kolev

Excusing myself with laziness, a lot of analgin and not-enough-sleep, I’ll ask for some ideas my readers…

I have one-two-three boxes of books which I wouldn’t read again (mostly thrillers), which would feel bad if they just stay boxed and alone. To be giving them away through the blog would be a hard task (e.g. I’m lazy) – they’re at least 100…

There’s the variant of donating them to a library, but to which one? And there’s a better idea…

.. which is to make an online (in the future – maybe also distributed) library – I upload into it the list of books, people request them, I bring them to IBB or in some other way we arrange for me to give the book, then someone else requests it and the two of them can make another arrangement. The system DOES NOT log who had read what, and the idea is in the future for other people to be able to join with their pools of books (so to be done with the strange giving away through the blogs).
(there also might be a rating system, like who has lost how many books :) )

The problem is that I couldn’t find good software for this – all those for library management are for real ones :) (I definitely started thinking about a barcode scanner…). The software should be really simple, but because I’m not a really good programmer (and how lazy I am, words can’t describe) I don’t feel like writing it…

So, does someone know about such software or about a library that would offer such online service with the search, etc.? To note again, those aren’t 10 books, but a box-two – most community-based ideas don’t scale enough…
(and NO, I’m NOT going to sell them, give them for recycling or to burn them.)
