2008-10-12 books

(I overslept for the protest in the morning, I’ll write on that later)

So again, some books…

“Nation” by Terry Pratchett – his first book in a long time that’s not from Discworld – turns out to be really nice, I read it while travelling to the USA. Reminds me somewhat on the Johnny series, but is definitely better – about a boy that has to restore his nation after a serious disaster. It’s definitely visible how Pratchett has started in the later years to write more serious and not-that-much-funny books…
(I think there should still copies left at Orange)

“Dzift” by Vladislav Todorov – one more book that shows that there’s hope for the Bulgarian authors. I read it in one sitting, liked it a lot, I might even try seeing the movie :)

Something by Hristo Stoyanov, can’t remember what – I just want to note that this is one of the most pathetic authors I’ve read, and I’m really sorry that I bought something his. For example, how can you make a book from a few measly writings and three times more comments on that by all kinds of idiots from Internet forums?

“Anathem” by Neal Stephenson – arrived Monday, was finished this morning – as usual, great book (he doesn’t write another kind any more). The place where the book is set has nothing to do with his previous books, but some of the Baroque cycle ideas remain, and definitely makes you think while reading it. I’m inclined to say that sometimes he tops Umberto Eco.
And now a few years of waiting follow, until he writes something.

… and I might’ve read something else, but seems like it’s not worth mentioning, if I can’t remember it.
