Today because of me there was a DoS in Studentski grad – last evening I had compiled a kernel for one of the machines with make-kpkg, sent it to Valery, and he installed it in the morning. I guessed that it should run on (and to the question “Will it run” I answered “Yes, if you pray to the god of the servers”). The machine didn’t show up (looks like because the network interfaces got switched, and because of the lack of praying by Valery), and just on Murphy’s law the machine was residing behind locked door that we missed the key to.

I did some other things for the network there – tested a weak machine how much traffic can it pass through, and looks like it easily does 25Kpps (because both network interfaces were on the same interrupt, I guess it could do more, if this gets fixed). When Veso gets enough time, he’ll send some info where exactly can we find such machines, and this will bring the network one step closer to the right segmentation :)

I keep adding to the personal colo howto, and even now I see how I’ll have to wield the ax over it and fix it. This is the hardest part – to read it throughly 6-7 times, and to rethink for several minutes how each sentence can be optimized (evidently something that I don’t do with the blog…).
