Yesterday was the Apocalyptica concert in Sofia. I was at the previous one in Plovdiv (where the acoustics in the Antic theatre were incredible and perfect for their music), so I decided to see what the difference will be now, 3-4 years after (there’s a lot of difference in the albums :) ).

The organising of the concert sucked big time – it was 4 hours late and the two warm-up bands had to be cut out (and Wartime are worth listening to), not that the audience wasn’t warmed up :) The acoustics in the hall also weren’t really good (damn it, isn’t there a good concert hall in Sofia), but in spite of that Apocalyptica themselves were incredible – they played with joy, played great things, and the audience got crazed away… There was moshing, singing, shouting, stomping on the floor (I for example have no voice, my neck hurts and still have muscle fever :) ), twice we called them for encore and at the third time when they got on stage, Eicca Toppinen was carrying a bulgarian flag (they seemed a bit amazed by the audience, most of the time you couldn’t hear what they were talking on the mike because of the screaming, and the most memorable line was something like “.. and let’s continue with … you crazy Bulgarians”).

May be the only think I didn’t like too much was that the drums were somewhat changing the rhythm of the songs and made it simpler (not to mention that the sound setup there made it not really possible to hear some of the cellos). But in the end this didn’t make the concert even a bit less shattering :)
