Нещо хубаво от Piro от megatokyo, на тема библиотеки.

Проспах следобяда, и с остатъка си от сили се замъкнах до “Кривото” за ИББ. Не бяхме много, но беше приятно както винаги, а Жоро Чорбаджийски се оказа простак на вечерта, задето пие вино с кола. С Бобсън спорехме дали може да възникне естествен език като този на
Qwghlm – с 16 букви, и със свойството по-голяма част от комбинациите от букви (до 5-6 буквени) да са валидни думи.

(“При кмета” още не работи, следващата сряда сигурно пак ще сме в “Кривото”).

I didn’t pass the exam :) I knew how to solve 3 of the 11 problems, and I needed 5. WIth only one day of reading that’s the most accomplish-able.

But I was able to buy a nice book on cryptography from the bookstore in FMI, and spoke a bit with the shop assistant. It turned out that she hadn’t seen Mandelbrot’s book on fractals, which was published by the university’s publishing house, and we went to the library to check. It turned out that they have copy (that they give for xerox-copying), and tomorrow I’ll be a happy owner of a copy of this book (which is a treasure).

I hate getting up in the morning. I still wonder if I should go back to sleep.

It’s interesting to work with the notebook in your lap… It’s more relaxing than staying in front of the big monitor, I wonder if I could do any work this way:)

Скъсаха ме :) Можех да реша 3 от 11те задачи, а ми трябваха 5. С един ден четене – толкова.

За сметка на това си купих една приятна книжка за криптография от книжарницата във ФМИ, и се заговорих с продавачката. Оказа се, че тя не е виждала книгата на Манделброт за фрактали, която е издадена от университетското издателство, и в крайна сметка отидохме и проверихме в библиотеката на факултета. Оказа се, че имат едно копие (което дават за ксеропкопиране), и утре ще съм щастлив притежател на копие от книжката (която си е живо съкровище).

Мразя да ставам рано сутрин. Още се чудя дали да си легна и да си доспя.

Интересно е да се работи с notebook-а в скута… По-отпускащо е от стоенето пред големия монитор, чудя се дали така мога да свърша някаква работа :)

I studied, studied, and caught up with the core stuff… I’ll definitely retain this textbook for the future, it has good enough explanations (but I could write in some moment to the author, to tell him some ideas about making it easier for lazy informatics like me).

It turned out that I have a limit of learning of material that I’m not applying – in the old times I read and understood TCP/IP Illustrated with the equations in 3 days… It’s possible if I was writing something connected to this, that all this would be easier, but the equations and the way they’re described made it uneasy for me to think about them (and it would’ve been easier, if it was explained in the beginning that almost the full idea of the interpolation is something like finding a function F, that returns 1 for X[i] and 0 for everything else, so the solution is something like (damn, I don’t have that symbol) INTERP_FUNC { for (i=0;i

Учих, учих, схванах основните неща… Този учебник определено ще си го запазя, може да ми потрябва в бъдеще, прилично добре е обяснен (може някой път да помисля и да пиша на автора какво е добре да се обясни като за мързеливи компютърждии като мене).

Оказа се, че в крайна сметка имам граница на възприемането на материал, който не прилагам – а едно време TCP/IP Illustrated го попих с формулите за 3 дни… Сигурно ако пишех нещо в тая област, щеше да ми е по-лесно, но по формулите и начина на описване на нещата просто ми става адски трудно да направя връзката (а щеше да става много по-чисто, ако още в началото бяха обяснили, че например почти цялата идея с интерполацията се свежда до това да си направиш една функция F, която връща 1 за X[i] и 0 за останалите, и да направиш решението (деба, няма го тоя символ) INTERP_FUNC { for (i=0;i

Today is a day for learning, and repairs – I’ll be bringing my monitor for maintenance, there is some problem hat makes it flicker some time after I turn it on. I’ll use the backup one for a while, but it’s an ugly CRT, so I’ll just be reading the most important things in the mail, and won’t stay a lot in front of the machine.

Днес ще е ден за учене, и за ремонти – ще си нося монитора на поправка, че има някакъв проблем, и известно време след като го включа, мига по неприятен начин. Ще ползвам резервния за известно време, който обаче е гадно CRT, така че само ще си чета основните неща по пощата, и няма да стоя много пред него.

If you want to tear something, pulling it with both hands, here’s a word of advice – host your hands close, in front of you, if you don’t want to dislocate your arm like me. It happens for the third time on the left one, I should be more careful :)

Today was a day for relaxation, tomorrow I’m buying the textbook, and wednesday is the exam. I still wonder what should I do – not to sleep, and go, or to try do go to sleep early…

I’m trying to find the other 2 books from “The baroque cycle” by Neal Stephenson, but they aren’t available at bookwarez, I’ll have to check a way to get them from Amazon. I might get the Cryptonomicon, too…

Ако искате да скъсате нещо, дърпайки го с две ръце, ето един дребен съвет – дръжте ръцете си близо, пред вас, за да не си извадите ръката като мен. Случва ми се за трети път на лявата, трябва да внимавам малко повече :)

Днес си беше ден за почивка, утре отивам да си взема учебник, и в сряда съм на изпит. Чудя се все още как да го направя – да не спя и да ида, или да се опитам да заспя рано…

Опитвам се да намеря другите 2 книги от “The baroque cycle” на Нийл Стивънсън, но в bookwarez ги няма, ще трябва да проверя какъв е варианта да си ги доставя от Amazon. Може да взема и Cryptonomicon-а…

Министерството на икономиката са малоумници: ето screenshot на deface-натия им сайт. Срамно е някакво средностатистическо script kiddie да ти пробие web сайта…

Last night I finished Quicksilver, and read half of the chosen things from OLS (and finished them in the morning). That was definitely a nice reading.

In the morning I found out that Velin has gone home in Pazardzhik, leaving me to install the washing machine (damn you). It didn’t take a lot of time, in an hour I had leveled it, linked it to the power, water and the drain, and it was washing its first batch of clothes. In the mean time I went to a nearby shop, to get a drier to hang the clothes on (which was able to fit on all the clother), and pegs (which weren’t enough, I’ll have to get some more). Now the clothes are hanged, this was my first laundry in this apartment … From the special things the only thing left is to cook some spaghetti, but that will wait until some people come back.

I’m working on an idea for a “hack contest” in the time of the incoming OpenFest, and idea of Nikola Antonov from linux-bg. I’ve uploaded an initial version at my homepage, whomever wants can look at it (because it’s really initial, it’s in UTF8, unix text format). I accept all kinds of ideas for additions, and I’m interested if there’s anybody who would want to participate in such contest :)

Снощи завърших Quicksilver, и преполових избраните неща от OLS (а на сутринта ги довърших). Определено бяха приятно четиво.

Сутринта открих, че Велин се е прибрах в Пазарджик, оставяйки ме сам да се оправя с пералнята (гад). Не отне много време, и по някое време вече я бях наместил, нивелирал, свързал с тока, водата и канализацията, и переше първата купчина дрехи. През това време аз се разходих до едно близко магазинче да си купя една сушилня (която в общи линии събра дрехите) и щипки (които едвам стигнаха, трябва да си взема още). Сега дрехите са прострени, това ми беше първото пране в новата квартира… Май от специалните дейности остана само готвенето на спагети, но това ще бъде отложено до прибирането на определени хора.

Разписвам една идея за “hack contest” в рамките на предстоящия OpenFest, по идея на Никола Антонов от linux-bg. Качил съм началната версия на моята страница, който желае, може да ги погледне (понеже са съвсем начални, са в UTF8, unix text format). Приемам предложения за добавки, и ми е интересно дали има хора, които биха участвали в нещо такова :).

The exam went well – there were 7 students, and we didn’t pass only one (I still have no idea why had he come).

After that with Pentchev and Nedyalkov we went home, where we played a bit with the smartcard readers – there is some problem with the standard opensc in debian, it doesn’t want to compile, and the binary package doesn’t want to cooperate with the card. We’ll see what happens…

So now I have some more pages of Quicksilver to read, and a pile of chosen papers from OLS (Otawa Linux Symposium), printed and waiting. I’ll be giving myself a break from studying until monday, when the book store at the faculty will be open, so I can get an textbook on numerical methods.

(Me and Velin watched “Basic”. Damn artificial and false movie, I even felt sick).

Изпитването на студентите мина добре – бяха 7 човека, и само един скъсахме (не мога да си обясня защо изобщо беше дошъл….).

След това с Пенчев и Недялков се пренесохме у нас, където си поиграхме малко с четците за smart-карти – има някакъв проблем със стандартното opensc в debian, не иска да се компилира, а компилирания пакет отказва да се разбере с картата. Ще я видим тая работа…

Сега си имам още няколко страници от Quicksilver за дочитане, и една купчина избрани неща от OLS (Otawa Linux Symposium), разпечатани и чакащи. Давам си почивка от ученето, до понеделник, докато успея да си взема учебник по числени методи.

(С Велин гледахме “Първично”. Ужасно изкуствен и нагласен филм, чак гадно ми стана).

Fuck, I wasn’t able to go to the exam. After I went to bed, I woke up at some point because of a nightmare, got up, got a bit awake, and then went to bed again, to be awaken by another nightmare at about 3-4. So I really wasn’t able go get up when I heard the alarm, and slept until 11…

The good thing is that I won’t be late for the network security.

Мамка му, не успях да ида на изпита. След като си легнах, по някое време се събудих от кошмар, станах, поосвестих се малко, легнах пак да спя, и някъде около 3-4 пак се събудих от кошмар. Съответно изобщо не можах да стана, като си чух часовника, и спах до 11…

Е, поне няма да закъснея за мрежовата сигурност.

Enough with the prolog, tomorrow is my exam (and the exam on network security, on which I’ll be asking questions :) )

I’ve made the signing of an email through a smartcard – there are still some problems, like that the opensc in Debian doesn’t support PC/SC, and I’ll have to talk a bit with the maintainer. Also, the procedure of the installation of the drivers and certificates is a bit odd, seems too complicated to me – all of the stuff I had to do for gpg was a lot less, and a lot cleaner.

I really have no idea how will I get up in 8:00…

Колкото научих пролога – толкова, утре ми е изпита (и съответно изпита по мрежова сигурност, на който пък аз ще изпитвам)…

Подкарах подписването на mail чрез смарткартата – още има няколко проблема, например, че opensc-то в Debian не поддържа PC/SC, и ще трябва да си говоря с maintainer-а по въпроса. Освен това, процедурата по инсталирането на драйверите и на сертификатите напред-назад леко ме притеснява, твърде усложнена ми се вижда – цялото подкарване на gpg беше много по-лесно и чисто.

Изобщо не ми се мисли как ще стана в 8:00…

The washing machine is resisting – there are some braces that hold the drum to be removed, and one of the bolts refused to unscrew – even Velin wasn’t able to unscrew it – so we’ll have to think about a bigger screwdriver.

Today’s IBB was good, because we managed to fill 4-5 tables in “Krivoto” (a lot of people came back from vacations), Veso Kolev came too, and we spoke about a lot of things, like routing protocols, ntp servers, GEANT, etc. Nikolay Nedyalkov came too and gave me one USB smartcard reader (which is already running, I just have to make thunderbird to use it). I also found out that the neck chop there is great, and exactly by my taste they serve it with some garlic sauce :) I left the meeting with a piece of paper with things to do, the rest of which I’ll be finishing in the morning.
