I survived.
I, chervarium and avatarbg spent a night in drinking and talks about linguistics, mathematics, genetics and hand-writing (and a lot of their subtopics). Good things that we had paper and tools to write on it :)
I gave a present to chervarium – a second grade textbook on mathematics, to make it easier for him to explain complex things to us :)
I bought “Ilium” by Dan Simmons, to see how good is it…

Аз, chervarium и avatarbg изкарахме една вечер в пиене и разговори на тема лингвистика, математика, генетика и краснопис (да не говорим за купчината подтеми). Добре, че имахме хартия и инструменти за писане :)
Подарих на chervarium учебник по математика за втори клас, като ни обяснява сложни неща, да го прави на по-разбираем език :)
Купих си “Илион” на Дан Симънс, да видим доколко е добра…

Today I’ll be drinking with chervarium. Tomorrow I’ll be getting my monitor back. Wednesday I’ll be drinking with Bobson. Thursday – with the people from the network security course, friday there’s another birthday.
If I die, please put me in a glass, I’ll be spirituous enough … :)
Днес ще се пие с червото. Утре ще си вземам монитора. В сряда ще се пие с Бобсън. В четвъртък – с другите от мрежовата сигурност, в петък ще се празнува още един рожден ден.

I finished reading “The war of the flowers” by Tad Williams, a note book, with somewhat patchy end, but worth reading.
Went to visit Valyak this morning, it turns out that a few days ago he with his bike had an accident, and hit his head in a pole. He has a slight brain concussion, the pole probably has a hard one. He’ll be in bed for some more days, resting in a darkened room, while his head remaps its bad sectors :) He’ll show online probably around 20th.
(with the headband and his long hair he looks remarkably like Conan).
I helped him a bit with one of his machines, to move some stuff from an openbsd, that has some memory errors, and we managed to do some of it, but I found out that I feel uncomfortable on a *bsd, doesn’t look orderly to me…

Изчетох “Войната на цветята” на Тад Уилиамс, хубава книга, с малко налепен край, но си струва да се прочете.
Ходих на гости на Валяка тая сутрин, оказа се, че той преди няколко дни с колелото е направил едно произшествие, ударил е един стълб с глава, Валяка има леко сътресение, стълба най-вероятно – тежко. Още няколко дни ще е на легло и ще си почива в затъмнена стая, докато главата му свърши с
remaping-а на лошите сектори :) Вероятно ще се появи online около 20ти.
(с превръзката на главата си и дългата си коса много прилича на Конан).
Помогнах му малко за една от неговите машини, да премести някои неща от едно openbsd, което има и грешки в паметта, и свършихме едно-две неща, само дето за пореден път открих, че се чувствам неудобно на *bsd, вижда ми се неподредено…

Today I got up at 9:20, and most of the day worked with Sebastian on openfest’s site, tomorrow it probably will be ok.
Veso Kolev had some very strange problem with gated – it was giving him a segfault for an unknown reason. We fought it with strace, ltrace, at some point we managed to get a core dump, only to see something like a->b->c–, and b=NULL… In the end the cause was discovered accidentally – it was some NAT on an interface…
Днес станах в 9:20, и в общи линии през по-голямата част от деня със Sebastian оправяме сайта за openfest, сигурно утре ще е в горе-долу приличен вид.
Весо Колев имаше някакъв много странен проблем с gated – даваше му segfault по някаква причина… Борихме проблема със strace, ltrace, по някое време успяхме да измъкнем един coredump само за да видим, че прави нещо от типа на a->b->c– , като b=NULL… В крайна сметка проблема беше открит случайно – оказа се в някакъв NAT на някой от интерфейсите…
Today was the first planning meeting for OpenFest, which went well, we did a nice list of things that we need to do, and went to eat at a pub dear to Zhoro Chorbadzhiyski – “Griffin” (there was a promotion – you get two big brandies and they give you one greed salad for free, which he took advantage of).
The main result of the meeting was the list, and I’m working on it already – we have a way to film it (and I’ll be bringing the cameraman on the next meeting), we have a realtively good list of the lectures, and I made an account on marla for sebastianz, installed a postnuke there, and let him move the site there and to enjoy his life. Everyone willing to see his pains can do it at openfest.ludost.net :).
This year there is a chance to include the event in linuxcalendar.com (a project of lwn.net), I’m just waiting for an explanation of the rules of inclusion.
Днес беше работната среща за OpenFest, която мина добре, направихме списък с неща за вършене, и отидохме да хапнем в една любима на Жоро Чорбаджийски кръчма – “Грифин”(където имаше промоция – пиеш 2 големи ракии и ти дават безплатно една зелена салата, от което той с възползва).
Основния резултат от срещата беше списъка, по който вече работя – вече се намери вариант да се снимат нещата (и ще доведа този, който ще снима, на следващата работна среща), направи се приблизителен списък на лекциите, и беше изръчкан sebastianz да прави сайт – създадох му account на marla, инсталирах един postnuke, и го оставих да се радва на живота. Желаещите да видят мъките му могат да го направят на openfest.ludost.net :).
Тази година има шанс да включим събитието в linuxcalendar.com (един проект на lwn.net), само чакам да ми отговорят на пощата за това какво трябва да направим, че да ни включат.
The day began in an ugly way, because of last night’s drinking, good thing that before I went home I went to “Kuch” to eat a paunch soup… I went to the hospital, to get my arm checked. There was some waiting, I got sent to the X-ray, and then I was told to wait for an half an hour. I used the time to get to the nearest pub, where with one paunch soup and a beer the world started to look better.
Then I went on to finish with the examination, the doc found out that there isn’t any problem with it, and just my joints are a bit flabby, so in the end I could easily dislocate my shoulder and not care about it … :)
Right now I’m reading in parallel 3 books – the one by John Taylor Gatto, the last one by Tad Williams – “The war of the flowers”, and the one by Mandelbrot on fractals. Some people found for me “The confusion” by Neal Stephenson, but I’m still wondering about reading it this way, or just to wait, and order the whole Baroque cycle on paper – right now have enough to read, and some ideas for writing…
(I wonder how long will it take before I start dreaming some combination of those three books ?:) )
I’m interested in how many people would want some short article with examples on “Some quick principles of the debugging under linux – strace, ltrace, gdb”. A lot of people are asking me “why doesn’t this work”, instead using some of these tools, and to find out for themselves (I’ve found out that strace can found 95% of the problems :) ).
Денят започна бая криво, заради снощното пиене, добре, че преди да се прибера, минах през “Къч” да изям една шкембе чорба… След това отидох до болницата, за да ми видят ръката. Там малко ме бавиха, пратиха ме на рентген, след което казаха да почакам половин час. Аз реших да се възползвам от това време по подходящ начин, и се примъкнах до близката кръчма, където с още една шкембе чорба и една малка бира се върнах съвсем в тоя свят.
После отидох да свърша с прегледа, оказа се, че нищо ми няма, и че като идея ставите ми твърде много мърдат, така че в крайна сметка спокойно мога да си вадя ръката и да не ми пука особено …:)
В момента чета паралелно 3 книги – тази на John Taylor Gatto, последната на Тад Уилиамс – “Войната на цветята”, и тази на Манделброт за фракталите. Намериха ми и “The confusion” на Нийл Стивънсън, обаче още мисля да я чета ли така, или просто да почакам малко, и да си поръчам целия Бароков цикъл на хартия – така и така имам достатъчно за четене, а и няколко идеи за писане …
(колко време ли ще ми трябва да почна да сънувам комбинация от 3те книги ?:) )
Интересно ми е колко човека биха се заинтересували за нещо кратко с примери на тема “Няколко бързи принципа за debug-ване под linux – strace, ltrace, gdb”. Много хора ми задават въпроса ‘това защо не работи’, вместо да приложат някой от тези инструменти, и сами да видят (открил съм, че със strace могат да се открият около 95% от проблемите :) ).
Today was a relaxation day, to read something besides textbooks.
I had promised myself that if I don’t pass this exam, I’ll stop this subject, and I will do this – I’ll be teaching network security, but I’ll be applying again, this time for computer sciences, if I like the curriculum.
I’m reading Gatto’s book – Underground history of the american education – something good for everyone that has children, or for children, going to school.
My organism is getting worse – I went for a drink with Velin and Sve, went home, ran some of the way, and I’m feeling tired as hell. This isn’t good…

Казал си бях, че ако не взема този изпит, ще откажа тази специалност, и така ще направя – ще водя Мрежовата сигурност, но смятам да кандидатствам наново в Компютърните науки, ако ми хареса каквато програма са си направили.
Чета сериозно книгата на Гато – Underground history of the americanо education – много подходяща за хора с деца, или за деца, които ходят на училище.
Организма ми не става – ходихме да пием с Велин и Све в “Халбите”, прибрах се пеша, като тичах малко, и съм скапан. Това изобщо не е добре…

I slept through the afternoon, and then dragged myself to “Krivoto” for IBB. We weren’t a lot, but was nice as usual, Zhoro Chorbadhiyski was the vulgar person of the evening, because he admitted to drinking wine with cola. Me and Bobson had an argument if there is the possibility for a normal human language to evolve like the one in Qqwghlm – with 16 letters, and most of the combinations of characters (up to 5-6) to be valid words.
(“Pri kmeta” is still closed, looks like next wednesday we’ll be in “Krivoto” again).

Проспах следобяда, и с остатъка си от сили се замъкнах до “Кривото” за ИББ. Не бяхме много, но беше приятно както винаги, а Жоро Чорбаджийски се оказа простак на вечерта, задето пие вино с кола. С Бобсън спорехме дали може да възникне естествен език като този на
Qwghlm – с 16 букви, и със свойството по-голяма част от комбинациите от букви (до 5-6 буквени) да са валидни думи.
(“При кмета” още не работи, следващата сряда сигурно пак ще сме в “Кривото”).
I didn’t pass the exam :) I knew how to solve 3 of the 11 problems, and I needed 5. WIth only one day of reading that’s the most accomplish-able.
But I was able to buy a nice book on cryptography from the bookstore in FMI, and spoke a bit with the shop assistant. It turned out that she hadn’t seen Mandelbrot’s book on fractals, which was published by the university’s publishing house, and we went to the library to check. It turned out that they have copy (that they give for xerox-copying), and tomorrow I’ll be a happy owner of a copy of this book (which is a treasure).
I hate getting up in the morning. I still wonder if I should go back to sleep.
It’s interesting to work with the notebook in your lap… It’s more relaxing than staying in front of the big monitor, I wonder if I could do any work this way:)
