It’s becoming a habit to blog in the morning, this can’t be good…

Yesterday was dizzy again, my head was partially unable to think (I still haven’t cured), so I cleaned at home, and tried writing one of the lectures, but it didn’t work. This last week was really , I haven’t accomplished anything serious (and I’m so offline, that I’ll have to double-check that in the blog, to be sure).

In the evening there was IBB again, this time in “Krivoto”, at the corner of “Dondukov” and “Budapeshta” – a really great place, with a nice cooking, but I didn’t feel well, and went home early. There I made myself about a liter of camomile tea, and watched parts of movies, while drinking it (I didn’t like any of those, and I’ve already finished Futurama). Then I slept for some hours, Velin came home, and we sat to watch Futurama from the beginning.

I just hope that today I’ll be able to work out some things and go to a doctor, to see what’s my problem…

Става ми навик да блогвам сутринта, не е добре така…

Вчера ми беше отнесен ден, главата ми никаква я нямаше (още не съм се излекувал), за това изчистих вкъщи, и се опитах да пиша една лекция, но нищо не се получи. Въобще последната една седмица ми беше адски непродуктивна, нищо сериозно май не съм свършил (и съм толкова отнесен, че ще трябва да проверя в блога, за да съм сигурен).

Вечерта имаше пак ИББ, този път в “Кривото” на ъгъла на “Дондуков” и “Будапеща” – много приятно място, много хубаво готвят, но на мен не ми беше добре, и си тръгнах рано. Вкъщи си направих около литър чай от лайка, пиех си го, и гледах парчета от филми (нито един от тези, които свалях, не ми хареса, а Futurama вече я изгледах). После поспах час-два, след което Велин се прибра, и седнахме да гледаме Futurama отначало…

Е, поне днес се надявам да си уредя нещата и да ида на лекар, да видя какво все пак ми има.

There wasn’t anything really interesting yesterday, except the hangover, and the pictures from Debian’s Birthday. Again there is a picture showing the way of celebrating, with beer and cake…

A day for Debian’s birthday.

The day began with fixing some problems with the project (some minor stuff left, a rudimentary cluster manager), after which me and Valyak went to Heloween. All kinds of people came, we discussed a lot of different topics (I spoke a lot about social problems), and some minutes before being kicked out me, Bobson and Valyak went on foot to Lozentz. We were able to get there, despite the darkness in the park.

Right now I’m in bed with the notebook, drinking heated brandy with camomile, a lot of honey, and a good quantity of Bobson’s hot peppers. This should solve my throat problem (if it isn’t ok by tomorrow, I’ll go buy granoforine). It probably isn’t a good idea after all the beer at Haloween, but I can cure the headache with some aspirin and a paunch soup, and I’m fighting the throat for third day. If I die sorry, I’m too lazy to write a will :)

Ден за рождения ден на Debian.

Деня започна с оправянето на няколко проблема по проекта (остана само да се напише нещо като примитивен cluster manager), след което с Валяка отидохме в Heloween. Събрахме се всякакви хора, обсъждахме всякакви проблеми (аз отделих бая време на социалните), след което малко преди да ни изгонят аз, Бобсън и Валяка пеша се запътихме към Лозенец. Стигнахме, въпреки че в гората беше бая тъмно.

В момента аз си лежа в леглото с notebook-а, и пия греяна ракия с лайка, много мед, и бая от лютата чушка на Бибсън, което трябва да реши проблема с гърлото ми (ако до утре не е добре, ще ида да си купя гранофорин). Може би не е добра идея след всичката бира в Heloween, но главоболието го лекуват аспирина и шкембе чорбата, а с гърлото се боря вече трети ден. Ако случайно умра – съжалявам, мързи ме да пиша завещание :)

От проекта се съгласиха да направя лекция за High-availability със свободен софтуер, скоро ще почна да я пиша (надявам се…а това го пиша, за да не забравя :) )

I’m a little dizzy, so this will be short…

Me and Velin watched Futurama the whole day, went to eat at XXL at Studentski grad, and then watched Alien… I can’t remember something else interesting, which might be related to my temperature, so I’ll go and drink an aspirin and a paracetamol, and go to bed.

Малко ми е замаяно, затова накратко…

Цял ден с Велин гледахме Futurama, ходихме да хапнем в XXL в Студентски град, след което гледахме Пришълеца… Друго нещо не се сещам от деня, което може да се дължи на температурата ми, смятам да пия един аспирин, един парацетамол, и да си лягам.

Today was a film marathon day… With Velin we watched some Futurama, then Azuri, Fahrenheit 9/11. and after that Judge Dredd.

Azuri wasn’t something special, everything except the main heroine was somewhat good, and she was really beautiful, not exactly the example for a killer (but I’m sure Velin is going to have dreams about her tonight). Fahrenheit was the standard Michael Moore film – there’s info in it, but his methods for displaying information and convincing people are really demagogic and manipulating… And not to mention that there isn’t a really easy way to check all the information there, and I’m really paranoid about information that’s being shown to me, and which isn’t checkable (most of the film I can falsify myself, if I had a year, and the required equipment).

Dredd was a nice movie with Stallone, and gave me some interesting thoughts, which I forgot, because in the beginning I made myself some heated brandy, with the hot peppers Bobson gave me (following his instructions, I used a pair of nippers, not my hands, to grab it), it was good. Next time I’ll put more pepper…
(Interesting, Velin is disturbed about the way I light the boiling heated brandy. I should probably get a fire extinguisher, to make him calmer?)

The better part of the day was, that I had a walk with a nice person… No quantity of heated brandy and movies can beat that :)

I’ve unsubscribed myself from the ISECA mailing list, if I read another email filled with marketspeak, I’ll vomit, that’s why I didn’t even announce it – I have no intention of discussing my decision. I’ll keep on working on the network security course (if nobody minds), and that’s it.

I’m thinking about talking to the proprietors of the project if they agree for me to make a High-availability with FLOSS software lecture, with the things I did for them – it will probably be interesting for a lot of people.

Днес беше време за филмов маратон… С Велин гледахме малко Futurama, после Azuri, Fahrenheit 9/11, и след това Judge Dredd.

Azuri не беше нещо особено, всичко с изключение на главната героиня беше в общи линии добре, а тя беше бая красива, и не точно добрия пример за убиец (но съм сигурен, че Велин ще я сънува тая нощ). Fahrenheit беше стандартен за Майкъл Мур филм – има информация в него, но методите му за показване и убеждаване на хората в някои от идеите му са си жива демагогия и манипулация… Да не говорим, че наистина няма лесен начин да се провери цялата информация, а аз съм бая подозрителен към просто информация, която ми показват, и която не мога да проверя (по-голямата част от филма и аз мога да я фалшифицирам, ако имам около година време, и нужната техника).

Dredd си беше хубав филм със Сталоун, и ми докара разни интересни мисли, които забравих, понеже в началото си бях направил греяна ракия, с малко от лютата чушка на Бобсън (следвайки указанията му, я хващах с клещите, не с ръце), получи се много добре. Следващия път ще пробвам с малко повече …
(Интересно, Велин се притеснява, като паля изпаренията от кипящата греяна ракия. Дали да взема пожарогасител, за да е по-спокоен?)

Но по-хубавото в деня беше, че ходих да се разходя с приятен човек… Никакво количество греяни ракии и филми не може да замести това :)

Отписах се от листата на ISECA, ако прочета още един mail с marketspeak в него, ще повърна, за това и не съм писал да кажа – изобщо нямам намерение да си обсъждам решението. Ще продължа да се занимавам с курса по мрежова сигурност(ако няма някой против), и толкова.

Мисля да запитам възложителите на проекта дали са съгласни да приготвя една лекция за High-availability със свободен софтуер, и нещата, които направихме при тях – вероятно ще е интересно на много хора.

Sleep…

I went to the server room today, but there was a bit of misunderstanding – nobody was there, so I went home. In the end I got lazy, downloaded some Futurama, and started watching… At some moment I felt sleepy, slept until 12, watched until now, and I intend to go back to sleep.

I’ve shunt something in the knuckles of my left hand, I’ll have to see when that will get better.

Заспала работа.

Ходих до сървърното днес, но се получи разминаване (там нямаше никой), и се прибрах. В крайна сметка ме хвана мързела, почнах да свалям Futurama, и да гледам… По някое време ми се доспа, дремах до около 12, досега гледах, и мисля пак да спя.

Разместил съм си нещо по кокалчетата на лявата ръка, да видим кога ще се оправи.

I’m finishing this, and going to sleep…

The day began with a paunch soup at “Divaka”, to get a bit better – it helped, but not a lot, because it was hot and spicy, and the weather wasn’t cold enough… Good thing the server room has AC.

Then followed some problem-solving. The first thing was that freebsd’s stack was behaving differently from the linux one, and this created a problem with the ADSL bridge, because it gives you an IP over DHCP, and the same one as a default gateway. In this situation linux starts sending everything directly through the interface, the bridge does proxyarp, and it works. FreeBSD, OTOH, routes that IP through the loopback, and fscked up the situation. In the end we had to write the configuration statically… It’s a problem of the damn bridge to use such a configuration…

The other thing was the config of the UPS to talk to the machines – it took some time, and I’ll have to explain to some more of them to ti shut down when needed, but I was able to tell the UPS over the serial port to shut down, and it was quite a view… But something more fun was to see it start again – the fuse couldn’t hold it, and snapped :)

There is some problem with the database, drbd and heartbeat, which I’ll fight with tomorrow, because I saw it sometime after the test of the UPS, and I wasn’t able to thing good enough.

The night finished with Chervarium in “Krivoto” (behind the Rectorate), to get something to eat and to drink a beer or two, we haven’t been there for a long time.

(And this was written while Velin was snoring. How can he sleep in this noise, I don’t know.)

Пиша това, и отивам да спя…

Започнах деня със шкембе чорба в “Дивака”, за да се поосвестя малко – помогна, но не толкова, понеже беше гореща и люта, а времето не беше особено хладно… Добре, че в сървърното има климатик.

Последва оправяне на няколко проблема. Първия беше, че stack-а на freebsd се държи различно от linux-кия, и това създаде проблем с ADSL bridge-а, понеже той дава по DHCP някакво IP, и същото такова за default gateway. В такава ситуация linux почва да праща всичко директно по интерфейса, bridge прави proxyarp, и нещата работят. FreeBSD обаче рутира това ip през loopback-а си, и директно омаза ситуацията, та се наложи да забием настройките на ръка. В крайна сметка проблема си е на проклетия bridge, че се държи странно…

Друг проблем беше настройката на UPS-а да си говори с машините – това отне известно време, и ще трябва да обясня на няколко други машини да се гасят, но поне изтествах да кажа на UPS-а по серийния порт да угасне, и беше бая ефектно … Още по ефектно беше включването му, при което бушона не издържа и щракна :)

Има и някакъв проблем с базата, drbd и heartbeat, който ще боря утре на свежо, защото го забелязах чак около теста на UPS-а, и не бях в състояние да мисля достатъчно добре.

Вечерта завърши с червото в “Кривото” (зад ректората), да хапнем и да пийнем по бира, не бяхме ходили там от бая време.

(А това беше написано под звуците на хъркането на Велин. Как спи на звука на клавиатурата, идея си нямам.)

It’s nice when you’re drunk to get a bottle of tonic and some lemons, they help ….

Good thing I had brandy at home, to clean my wounds on the hands, I tried which things on the way home were good for punching, and my knuckles are bleeding a bit (I should get a punching bag already).

Today IBB was interesting (because “Pri Kmeta” was closed, we were at O!Shipka), we discussed all kinds of interesting things (Guninski, I’ll dig up the RFC for NTP, and will explain it to you someday :) ), after which we continued down in the basement, me, chervarium, and a guy that was called Georgi, and his nick was something with Alabala… It was great, we went through all kinds of optics, like the universe, the dimensions and the volumes, economics, sociology, Rome and Visitation empires, genetics, and I-can’t-remember-what-else….

Today a user of the CBL that I’m mirroring wrote to me, and I’m about to mirror the lists of spamhaus, blitzed and njabl (I have to mail them and do a little talking, I just have to be awake and sober). I hope it help some users.

I’ll probably be moving marla in the next week – I still don’t have a final confirmation, but let this serve as an early warning to the people reading this, I’ll announce the final decision in a few days.

Хубаво е човек като е пил да си купи една бутилка тоник и няколко лимона, помагат…

Е, добре и че имам ракия вкъщи, да си промия раните на ръцете, реших да проверя кои предмети по пътя стават за удряне, и от някои си разкървавих сериозно ръцете (трябва най-накрая да си взема боксова круша).

Днес IBB беше интересно (понеже “При Кмета” беше затворено, бяхме в О!Шипка), обсъждахме всякакви интересни неща (Гунински, ще ти изровя RFC-то за NTP, и ще ти го обясня някой ден :) ), след което продължихме долу в клуба, аз, chervarium, и още един човек, чието име беше Георги, и nick-а му нещо, което започва с Алабала… Продължението беше страхотно, минахме през всякакви теми, като вселената, измеренията и обемите, икономиката, социологията, римската и византийските империи, генетиката, и не помня какво още…

Днес ми писа един потребител на CBL-а, който съм mirror-нал на ludost.net, ще взема да говоря със spamhaus, blitzed и njabl за mirror на техните листи (всичко се свежда до едно писмо, само трябва да съм в състояние да го напиша). Надявам се да помогне на потребителите.

Мисля да местя marla следващата седмица – още нямам пълно потвърждение, но нека хората, четящи blog-а ми да го имат в предвид, ще го обявя допълнително няколко дни, преди да го направя.

Shortly, before I go out on errands…

Yesterday I watched Zatoichi (a nice movie, but the effects were not really good), after which I went out for a beer with minix, we drank and walked around until21-22, after which I went home, and fell asleep. For a first time in a long time I was able to get up in 10 in the morning…

After moving ludost.net to openintegra, I’m thinking about moving dobrich.net too (e.g. I’ve already initiated the transfer), I hate network solutions… It will be transferred in a week.

I’m still thinking on a GPS clock for marla, to have one stratum 1 NTP server in Bulgaria, but it comes about $200-$300 (this is one of the variants). I should check the way to put the antenna out, too…

Накратко, преди да изляза по задачи….

Вчера изгледах Затоичи (добър филм, въпреки че ефектите на места си личаха), след което излязох на биричка с minix, пихме и се мотахме до около 21-22, след което се прибрах, и заспах. За пръв път от много време успях да стана в 10 сутринта…

След като преместих ludost.net при openintegra, мисля да преместя и dobrich.net (т.е. вече пуснах трансфера), мразим network solutions… До около седмица ще е прехвърлен.

Още мисля по въпроса за GPS часовник за marla, да има един stratum 1 NTP сървър в България, само че излиза около $200-$300 (това е единия вариант). Трябва да видя и как мога да изведа антената…

I tested the ups for a hour and 55 minutes, and then plugged it in again, because of the thunders outside, I didn’t wanted to be caught by some sudden power outage.

Today chervarium installed the fbsd that will be a router/firewall for the project, and there were some problems with running the dhclient on a specified vlan. He’ll work on it remotely, to see what will happen (on the debian machine it was really easy to run, and worked from the start :) ).

After that we met tfl0ps, and the three of us went to have dinner at Don Domat (Don Tomato), and I again tried that great beans with bacon… It’s good to be nice to yourself one in a while.

Today I convinced myself how fallen am I – installed Descent Freespace 2, and I’m still playing it… I like flying, can’t help it :) There were some minor problems, like being unable to use the right ctrl for fire (because ctrl-z makes descent go crazy), but I fixed them… Let’s see how long will it take to finish it all.
