Днес пак имаше ситуация от типа “We’re rich/We’re poor”. Бобсън ми се обади да ми каже, че в една книжарница близо до “Славейков” има Cryptonomicon и Quicksilver, и аз отидох да си ги купя. После на връщане си купих и двата тома спомени на Молотов (които в момента чета), та ще си имам занимание за следващата една седмица (така и така според слуховете не се кани да излиза нещо друго интересно за четене).

Вечерта започнахме да гледаме Cowboy Bebop, и всички се съгласиха, че и филмчето е добро, и че soundtrack-а е страхотен (а аз го нямам целия, по дяволите, трябва да си го издиря).

Вече имам и jabber account – maniax@jabber.minus273.org, хората, които имам на icq и имат и jabber поддръжка, да се обадят. Мисля дали има смисъл и да се пуска jabber сървър на marla…

Today chervarium again failed to make the damn fbsd to start from the USB CD-ROM (e.g. it boots, and then says that it can’t find the device). I solved the last problem with the reliability of the mail system, and in monday we’ll have an acceptance protocol ready. If we’re lucky enough, we’ll have it signed then.

I found some recipes for lentils (when searching about it in google, I saw my blog, too.), so if I feel like it tomorrow I might try cooking a bit – I’ve already bought a kilo of lentils…

(and I still catch myself deep in Wikipedia. I should have this treated.)

Днес за пореден път червото не успя да накара проклетото fbsd да запали от USB CD-ROM-а (т.е. то boot-ва, и после казва, че не намира устройството). Аз реших в общи линии един последен проблем с надеждността на пощата, и в понеделник ще има подготвен протокол за това, че сме си свършили работата. При по-добър късмет може и да го подпишем.

Намерих си рецепти за леща (между страниците, намерени в google, видях и моя блог.), та при достатъчно желание утре мога да се пробвам да видя какво точно ще успея да направя – вече си взех едно кило леща…

(и пак се усещам на моменти, че съм се закопал в Wikipedia. Май от това ще трябва да се лекувам.)

I’ve just finished watching the stupidest film in my life (e.g. parts of it, I couldn’t stand most of it). It’s called “Galaxy quest”, and is some kind of parody of Star trek, but is so dumb and made up, that it’s not even funny.

Току-що гледах най-тъпия филм в живота си (т.е. части от него, повечето от него просто не ми понесе). Казва се ‘Galaxy quest’, и като идея е пародия на Стар Трек, но е толкова нечовешки тъп и измислен, че даже не е смешен.

I spent most of the time today at the project, we did the final tests, fixed some details, bu chervarium was busy, so he’ll finish his stuff tomorrow.

I’m reading Chomsky’s blog, and thinking about it, but I’ll first finish it before commenting on.

On my way home near NDK I stopped and listened to an interesting live performance on bagpipe and tarambuka – a few people had gathered at a quiet place, and were playing. It was a lot nicer than to sound coming from the big screen that’s hung on NDK, and a lot more thought in it.

I got me a nice quantity of lasagna for dinner, I still really like it.

When I got home I almost instantly went to bed – I have no idea why did I fell so worn out. I got up at 00:00, to see my mail, to blog, and to talk a bit with Velin. Outside it’s snowing (or more precisely the snow is going up and down, because of the crazy wind), it’s probably really cold, in short the best time to go under the blanket and to sleep.

I wonder if I should upload the rip of Chomsky’s DVD on marla, because I’m not really sure about the copyrights and stuff, but we can really think about a preview at a bigger place as recommended by some people, like in FMI, with a projector (we just have to find some audio equipment).

Днес прекарах малко време в проекта, направихме финални тестове, оправихме няколко дреболии, само chervarium беше зает, та той ще си довършва утре нещата.

Усилено чета блога на Чомски, и мисля по въпросите там, но искам първо да го изчета, преди да коментирам.

Прибирайки се покрай НДК, се спрях и послушах едно много интересно импровизирано изпълнение на гайда и тарамбука – няколко човека се бяха събрали на едно по-спокойно място, и си свиреха. Бяха много по-приятни от звука, чуващ се от големия екран, окачен на НДК, и определено много по-съдържателни.

Взех си пак едно прилично количество лазаня, продължава много да ми харесва.

Вечерта като се прибрах директно си легнах да спя – не знам защо се чувствах толкова скапан. Станах около 00:00, да си видя пощата и т.н., да блогна, и да си кажа две думи с Велин. Навън вали сняг (или по-скоро обикаля нагоре-надолу, заради побъркания вятър), вероятно е адски студено, изобщо идеалното време да се свие човек под одеялото и да си спи.

Чудя се да качвам ли rip-а на DVD-то на Чомски на marla, понеже не съм сигурен за copyright-овете и т.н., но наистина може да се помисли за една прожекция на по-голямо място, както се предлага, например във ФМИ, с проектор и т.н. (само трябва да издирим озвучаване).

I’ve watched the DVD with Chomsky, there’s really something depressing in it. He’s right about the fact that everything is right in front of us, and we’re trying not to see it. Peio, the dvd encoding is done with the following small script:

Right now I’m encoding it, should be ready tomorrow (it’s working with 23 fps, and has to do two passes).

The netsec test passed, not without fun moments… In the beginning I was going downstairs to get something to eat, and met Velin with one of the cats (not the IPSec one), going to the hall, so the first group of students was under cat supervision, too. In the tests there were some mistakes – at places there were two equal answers, and for the next test we’ll have another generator, even if I have to write it. We managed to grade all tests there (most of that was done by Zhoro, kudos:) ), and to record the results directly on Zhoro’s laptop, so they’ll be online tomorrow. I was able to sort the tests according to students’ faculty number, and to pull the comments (which ranged from how nice the course is, to one that said that some of us (I think it meant me) weren’t able to teach). This year there’s no one with 30 points, which isn’t good…

I had a (not really nice) instant soup for dinner, and I remembered that I haven’t eaten lentils in a long time – I’ll dig a recipe from somewhere, and cook some.

Orkut is so screwed, that it dies with error on connection. Idiot.

I’ve started writing the Personal Co-location howto, right now only on paper, but if I have enough time, I’ll soon start spamming some people with preliminary versions for review :) I’ll just have to get new pens, because the last ones ran out…

Изгледах DVD-то с Чомски, наистина има нещо депресиращо в него. Прав е като казва, че всичко е очевидно, и ние бая се стараем да не го видим. Пейо, encode-ването на DVD-то може да се прави със следния кратък скрипт:

Мина и теста по мрежова сигурност, не без своите забавни моменти… В началото тъкмо слизах до долу да си взема нещо за ядене, и засякох Велин, който беше помъкнал една от котките (не тая от IPSec лекцията) нагоре към аудиторията, та всъщност първата група беше и под котешко наблюдение. В самите тестове имаше грешки на места – на един определен въпрос имаше два еднакви отговора, и за следващия тест ако трябва аз ще напиша генератор, ама ще имаме друг. Успяхме да проверим всички тестове на място (по-голямата част ги провери Жоро, браво :) ), и да запишем резултатите директно на laptop-а на Жоро, така че резултатите ще се появят най-късно утре. Аз успях да подредя всички тестове по факултетен номер (забавно занимание, при 137 теста), и да извядя от тях коментарите на студентите (които варираха от колко е хубав курса, до един, че някои от нас (предполагам, става въпрос за мен) не могат да преподават). Тази година няма никой с 30 точки, което изобщо не е добре …

Вечерях с една (не особено приятна) супа полуфабрикат, и се замислих, че отдавна не съм ял леща – ще си изкопая една рецепта, и ще сготвя.

Orkut се е скапал до такава степен, че още при опита да го отворя дава грешка. Идиоти.

Започнах да пиша Personal Co-location howto, за момента още на хартия, но при достатъчно време скоро ще започна да спамвам някои хора с предварителни варианти за преглед :) Само да си взема хубави писци, че моите свършиха…

Today I finished configuring the last server for the project, it worked ok, but for some reason I had a ugly cable between the machines, and drbd’s synchronization was running at 100mbps, not at 1gbps, so I had to watch it for a hour.

At IBB it was fun as usual , Peio gave me a DVD with some stuff of Noam Chomsky (known to most of us from the discrete mathematics), which I’ll encode today/tomorrow (when I remember the exact options of the mencoder). We had an interesting conversation with Rumen about FSA, and the firewall at his job…

He’s reading here, so I’ll explain it again – almost all proxies, local limitations, etc, can be routed around, if the proxy supports HTTPS (SSL) requests. The trick is really simple – the requests themselves go through a CONNECT request at port 443, and if the machine on the other end has a ssh running at that port, you can easily connect to it. More information can be found at тук. This, of course, isn’t really pleasant for me, because I’m also at the other side – I’m trying to solve this problem at the project, and I’m coming with only two ways – to limit what’s send as a quantity (which in the moment can be done only with a patch to squid), or to make a whitelist of SSL sites, and to filter everything else.
I hate trying to outsmart myself, I always lose.

Today with Velin we watched “Nochnoj Dozor” (Night watch), with subtitles in bulgarian (a bit patched by us), the movie is great, and the book is one of the many reasons to learn russian.

Tomorrow it’s the network security test. I wonder if we have to check the hall throughly, because the cat might’ve dug a IPSec tunnel, from which the students might be able to get information during the test…

Днес направих последния сървър за проекта, сработи страхотно, само дето по някаква причина ми бяха закачили кофти кабел м/у двете машини, и синхронизацията на drbd ставаше на 100mbps, а не на 1gbps, та го гледах накриво около час.

На IBB си беше весело както винаги, Пейо ми даде едно DVD с Ноам Чомски (познат на доста от нас от дискретната математика), което ще encode-на днес/утре (като си припомня точните параметри на mencoder-а). Проведохме един интересен разговор с Румен на тема ССС, и за неговия firewall на работа…

Той така и така чете тука, та да кажа – почти всички proxy-та, локални ограничения и т.н. могат да се прескочат, ако proxy-то поддържа HTTPS (SSL) заявки. Номерът е много прост – самите заявки минават през един CONNECT на порт 443, и ако отсреща машината има пуснат един ssh на този порт, може спокойно да се закачите към него. Подробна информация има тук. Това, разбира се, на мен не ми е много приятно, понеже съм и от другата страна – опитвам се да реша тоя проблем в проекта, но се сещам само два варианта – или да огранича това, което се праща като количество информация (което може да стане поне за момента само с patch на squid), или да се направи whitelist със ssl сайтове, и останалото да се филтрира.
Мразя да се надлъгвам със себе си, винаги губя.

Днес с Велин изгледахме “Ночной дозор”, със субтитри на български (леко досглобени от нас), филмът наистина е много добър, а книгата става още една причина да искам да науча руски.

Утре – тест по мрежова сигурност. Чудя се дали да не проверим основно залата, че котката може да е прокопала някой IPSec тунел, от който студентите да получават информация по време на теста…

Short news – Patrick Volkerding is really ill. I hope he gets better – he’s done a lot for all of us, even I’ve started with slackware.

Chervarium is alive and online again, he had spent the last 3-4 days in hospital because of his allergies. Now he’s okay, a bit stuffed with medication, I gave him some small tasks, and we might be able to finish the project Friday.

Кратки новини – Патрик Волкеринг се е разболял бая зле. Надявам се да се оправи – направил е много за всички нас, даже аз съм почнал със Slackware.

Червото се оказа жив, само дето прекарал поради алергии последните 3-4 дни в болница. Сега е добре, леко натъпкан с разни лекарства, дадох му няколко кратки задачи, и има шанс да свършим с проекта в петък.

Chervarium is totally missing, and I need him to finish the last bits at the project. The last information is that he’s back from Holland, and that’s it. I wonder if I should call the police…

The lecture on network security was about IPSEC, and went well, desync had used the whole black board to make a detailed schemes. There was a good crowd to watch him, including the faculty’s cat (which I described as ‘food that came walking to us’). The cat itself was watching with a lot of interest, and I think that after today’s lecture it will start digging IPSEC tunnels around.

Today I made spaghetti for the first time at home. I need some more training, I’ve forgotten how it’s done (the spaghetti were good, but the sauce wasn’t).

Честит първи сняг – навън вали, леко хоризонтално, и гравитацията я мързи днес…

Червото е тотално неоткриваем, а ми трябва, за да свършим последните дребни неща по проекта. Последната информация е, че се е върнал от Холандия, и толкова. Чудя се да се обадя ли в полицията…

Лекцията по мрежова сигурност беше за IPSEC, мина добре, desync беше оползотворил дъската да направи подробни схеми. Имаше и доста публика, включваща и котката на факултета (която беше описана от мен като ‘мезето, дошло на крака’). Самата котка гледаше доста задълбочено, и поне според мен след днешната лекция ще започне да копае IPSEC тунели наоколо.

Днес за пръв път направих спагети вкъщи. Имам нужда от повече тренировки, позабравил съм как става (т.е. самите спагети станах добре, ама същото не може да се каже за соса).

Nothing really interesting today, except the flames surrounding the metal girls, and the rain outside (and I went out for food, because the hunger war running rampant), and it’s getting cold, my joints started hurting.

Something’s leaking in the X server, and is eating 17% of the memory (second place is for firefox with 12%, third for evolution with 3%). I’ll debug it…

I’ve put favicon.ico at marla and the blog. I guess it looks awful for everybody, but it’s hard to do something good at 16×16, I’ll have to play a bit more with it.

За днес няма какво да се казва, освен flame около метълките, и това, че навън валя (и аз излизах за храна, че глад мореше добитъка), и като идея че е бая студено, чак почнаха да ме болят ставите.

Нещо leak-ва в X сървъра, та ми яде 17% от паметта (на второ място е firefox-а с 12%, на трето evolution с 3%). Ще се debug-ва…

Сложих favicon.ico на marla и на блога. Предполагам, изглежда ужасно, ама на 16×16 трудно се получава нещо хубаво, трябва да си поиграя допълнително.

At first I was thinking to answer in the comments why do I like metal girls so much, but I’ve decided that here’s better. To specify it a bit better – I’m talking about all the women that listen to heavy music, no to be confused with others…

(the following is all based on my personal impressions :) And I’m sure that I’ll be sworn at a lot :) )

Firstly, they’re always more natural than most of the women. They don’t drown themselves in makeup (there are exceptions, of course), don’t dress in ugly rags, etc – they’re natural, and a beautiful metal girl is incomparably prettier than most. And they’re natural in their manners – not slushy, like most…

This leads to part 2 – the clothes. The black jeans, the long black dresses, the long hairs – the things just match. It’s not a problem that the clothes don’t accentuate the body, isn’t a problem – they move enough to be able to build a picture of their view under the clothes (but, of course, it’s a lot better to check for yourself :) )
(about the boots I don’t have a lot to say, they’re good shoes, and when you compare them with the sharp shit that most of the women are wearing right now, I feel like puking… They have the advantage that you can go on a long walks with them.)

And especially by personal impression – with most of the metal girls you can talk, they’re smart, and they just don’t care that much – with such woman you can get drunk, to rock around, to have philosophical disputes, to speak about books, music, movies, the life, the universe and everything else…

I’m not saying that there aren’t such women that aren’t metal ones, but they are a rare breed… And I’m not saying that all the metal ones are such, there are some bad exceptions :)

p.s. Zhoro, what use has a woman that you can’t drink with ?:)))
