The seminar is taking place as I write this …

There were a lot of problems in the beginning (I overslept it) – there were problems with the projector (this happens, because only I and Zhoro did a test), and the power went out in the Chemistry Faculty, so the seminar took place mostly in FMI, in room 325. I was able to attend the presentations of ISECA and BARS, especially the second was really good :)

My lecture followed, which went really well, especially with Zhoro’s help, who helped a lot with some hints from time to time, so there weren’t any confusions. We should adapt this principle for the network security lectures, but with care, so the people complement each other, and not interrupt each other.

Now Nakov is giving his lecture on what’s new in Java 1.5, next is Murry’s lecture on perl, and that will be the end… After that I’ll have the honor to put at home some of the equipment (Zhoro went out to drink, and left me the 20-meter VGA cable).

And the core guy, that did almost all of the organization – Mitko Shiyachki – is having his well-earned nap here on the couch, and everyone in the room is whispering… :)

Last night there was some problem with the net connection, that’s why I haven’t blogged…

I found the washing in the Valyak’s block – it works until 21:00 in the evening, they washed it perfectly, and it’s near. I’ll use them until my washing machine comes.

The presentation for today’s lecture went through one more edition, looks pretty good… Last night I set up the laptop for the presentations – ISECA will be using it, too, with a presentation in Flash (which is a pretty stupid format, but it’s not made by me, and not presented by me, I won’t be the one laughed at). The laptop itself was at last updated to the current debian unstable, to kernel 2.4.26 (and the ACPI is finally working), and now I have to find bodies for the battery, and to replace them. And I’ll see when the fan will come…

I hope it doesn’t rain as yesterday, with the hails and stuff, so the people can come easily to the seminar.

Today we did a rehearsal of Saturday’s lecture – it went well, fit in the time, and Chorbadzhiyski had some good notes, so it should all go well. We negotiated a internet connection in the room, in any case.

I’ve been too lazy in the last few day, I did almost nothing else… I tried to call a shop (that’s the only one that imports Antec cases), but the phone was disconnected. I wrote them mail, and I’ll see if they say something, if not, I’ll just go and find their office….

And something that I feel natural, but not a lot more people do – don’t trust the press and the mass-media – why, you can read in Zhoro’s blog.

I found the program for the entrance exam in the Plovdiv universityand at a example exam, while reading a thread in the fmi.bgstudent.org forum.

I was thinking about writing something long and vicious, but I don’t see a point. Just two things – I promise not to whine about SU for a week, and to tell the authors of the program, that the last time I checked, HTML wasn’t a scripting language.

God (of servers) forbid this to be the real teaching program for the kids in school.

Not really interesting day. With a bit of digging I found out where the water is paid, and went there. On the way back I bought a set of knives – until now we were with only one little knife, which even the cutting of the bread was a funny exercise…

The other thing I did almost all day was the presentation for the seminar – with Zhoro we were talking on ICQ, that it isn’t working out, so I went to his office. It took us about 4 hours to finish it, discuss it, clean it up, and for me to draw three (a bit ugly) schemes. It worked out well, I hope the people there to like it. I’m having some thoughts for the next seminar, to have something new, not a review or digging in some ready technology…

Followed IBB, where we with Zhoro were a little late. This time we were less people than usual, but as always there were enough topics to discuss (like hot peppers… Too bad it isn’t winter, I have some great ideas for hot brandy).

At home I finished reading one of the books (the one by R.A. Salvatore). Again nothing special, but helps you get to sleep…

Today I answered a mail about the network security course, what will be in it, etc, and sent a link to the things I’m writing about it now, if you want, take a look – I haven’t updated in a while, but next week I’m thinking about working on it seriously. Only the seminar has to pass…

I have no net connection, and I’m writing this in the evening, with some luck I’ll upload it in the morning.

Today we saw the hall for the seminar – 210 in the Chemistry faculty, doesn’t look too good, but will do the job. Now what’s left is to do a repetition with Zhoro, to clear up the presentation and the demos, and to prepare myself for the event.

Nothing especially interesting didn’t happen, except that my net connection had 40-50% packet loss, and at some point died. I was so bored and had nothing to do (nothing interesting to read), that I put some red pepper in my beer…

I feel sleepy again (it’s becoming a habit).

Saturday at the Rectorate of the Sofia University there will be a seminar by LabIO, ISECA and BARS, more about this tomorrow, when I get the agenda.

In the morning I fixed 2 small problems for the former firm, and then I started working on the plan for the lecture for Saturday’s seminar. Looks good, but there are a lot of things to take care of, like presentations, projectors, putting equipment in place, etc, I hope it all goes well.

In the evening we had a meeting to finish the agenda and the organization of the seminar, in the end tomorrow we’ll be able to announce it (the agenda is ready, but we have to clean up a few details about the place). The event looks very promising :)

After being in the mountains I feel like dreaming less… I still remember a great dream from the cabin, about (dancing) on the stairs of some Court (looked like the Courthouse here, but was a lot darker), while it was raining, while listening to Death (or was it Control Denied, I’m not sure). Interesting, how could I implement it in the real world, to put enough audio equipment, while it’s raining…

Writings on the bulgarian anime meeting

Day 1 (Friday), afternoon

We met at Popa on time, for a half an hour everybody came, and then with bus 204 we got to the bus station. From there with two taxi-like cars and the bus we got to Zlatnite mostove (The Golden Bridges) (the bus was unable to bring all the 11 of us, the driver said that it was overheating), from where we got to the cabin in about 56 minutes. The climbing was hard for some people, and we were carrying a lot of luggage, so we had to stop to rest more often…

We left our luggage, chose beds, and rested for a while, after which we went to meet Sasho-san, and had a walk-around. Then I met VDE, and we unloaded the first part of the equipment – the notebook and the projector, and teased them with some AMVs, until the next two cars came, with the audio equipment and the rest of the food. We set up everything, and began lighting the fire (which wasn’t easy, with all the wet wood around and the lack of paper). In the end swetq gave us his cheap deodorant, and it helped a lot… At that time, almost everybody was watching Excel Saga, and we were roasting some stuff on the fire. I made a somewhat deadly heated brandy, with a lot of black and red pepper, and some sugar. All of us that drank from it, were hot and red, and most of them refused a second gulp :) I have the feeling that I’ll be listening to some legends about that for a long time :)
(a burning and boiling pot of brandy is a great view :) )

There were some problems with the laptop, the CD denied to read some disks, the power was a bit flaky, and I’ll have to work on it in the next few days.

In the moment one group is watching Excel Saga, the other one is around the fire (and tomorrow we’ll have potatoes on embers :) ), and I’m thinking about getting some sleep, I feel a bit drifting.

(as I remember, the bed was shaking a little).

Day 2 (Saturday), morning

We slept with 3 blankets (some people were able to survive with only one, but after a lot of beer and such warming elements). According to witnesses, I’ve drank half a bottle of brandy (heated, and I still feel the hangover, good thing I have enough aspirin :) ).

Ivanhowke arrived, brought some machines and a UPS (thank god), v0rbe gave some music, and after the initial testing we’re resting here, listening to Black Mages. Some people are having breakfast outside, Binis, Emerald, Nushinka and some more are still sleeping, and we’re waiting for AlDim.

Really strange was me getting up at 9:30…

Day 2 (Saturday), evening

Blaaaaaaaaah.
What happened:
(pausing, we’ll be making a group photo)
I want to note that the social events don’t have a good effect on me. This photo was a long screaming, taking places, sitting uncomfortably, etc…

We met AlDim on the path, and helped his group with the luggage (they were a lot better than us(the first group)). The day continued with roasting of some meats and their eating (there were a lot of volunteers, that helped with the cooling), a few re-lightings of the fire, walks around, etc.

It all was good, we made some more heated brandy, which wasn’t that deadlier (which maybe is related to that that I didn’t use any black pepper :) ), then Sasho-san made one, which was nice, and then I tried to make heated beer (it sucked, don’t try that). Then we made a full gathering around the fire, to discuss some ideas, like a manga club in Sofia.

Followed the cooking of the Japanese meal, which included the organizing of 5-6 people to cook, boil, stir, etc., hell as usual, then we arranged the tables, then serving it and eating it (and we had to restrain a drunk and dancing mob in between)…

The meal was good, only the noodles were a bit pulpy, but I liked it and ate it all …

As for every such event there were some drunk people that sang, went crazy, and in full reminded me that I’m a bit old for such stuff… Not to mention that they annoyed the hell out of me with idiotic songs… And I was really beaten, because I had part in organizing almost everything and had ran up and down a lot, and in the end I ate my serving out at the fire, where was quiet…
(I was interrupted four times while writing this, to move some where, to turn off lamps, etc…)

In the moment the people in are watching Blue Submarine (I HAVE to get this), I’m feeling sleepy as hell, next to me nushinka is smoking, and I’m really happy that we cleaned most of the trash outside, so won’t have a lot of stuff to do tomorrow. Interesting, which car will carry the trash.

I’m really beat.

Day 3 (Sunday), noon

I just typed in the sheets, on which I had my notes. I have a really ugly handwriting (I can read it myself, btw :) ), everyone who saw it couldn’t read past the third word :)

In the morning I wake up early (around 9), looked at the people watching something (Future Boy Conan, a kid, that had a really dexterous legs :) ), and pulled some potatoes from the fire. With Felina we ate them, and then we watched some more anime. After that we started cleaning up, gathering the equipment, roasting the meat that was left, and such stuff. Sometime after we were ready I with VDE and Vegeta left with one of the cars and the equipment. Funny thing, we passed by sharkbite twice (and he left before we did :) ).

Conclusions

We should simplify the organizing.

Watching anime on a big screen with a projector and a nice audio equipment is great, we should do it more often. No monitor can compare to this :) If there is a way, we can do it in Sofia, without all the long walks, organizing, etc.

When Bub’s drunk, he’s attacking people :),

The cabin has some audio equipment, something like big real 100W speakers, mixed and amplifier, but I’m not sure that the cabin won’t fall if we use it, and have no exact idea how will we hook on it (I looked at it, while helping the manager to find out how the cabling is done, it’s a whole new science).

We weren’t able to try the beans of the manager, we should do that next time.

The potatoes on embers were great. They just have to be bigger.

If the mosquitoes were edible, we never will be hungry there – they were a lot…

I feel sleepy.
