I’ve gotten the itch to write tonight…

(Maybe the listening to “Do the evolution” by Pearl Jam helps :) )

Seems like our police wants to go back to the militia times – some days ago the minister signed a contract with the union of bulgarian writers for “…popularization of the work of the Ministry of the Interior in the writer’s magazines and newspapers…”. Some people have already written some fun ides on the kinds of works that can be written, some in the style of the Avakum Zahov related stuff (which was notorious for its flatness)…

There are a few chapters in the “In absentia reports on Bulgaria” by Georgi Markov for his meetings with the police while he was a writer, exactly with this purpose – to get to know the job of the militia, its problems, to show those to the society. The result can be seen in the reports – everything is there, with all the inconvenient parts… I don’t doubt that there will be enough sell-out writers, who will write empty praises (and I wonder who’s going to believe those), but there (I really hope) will be some strong souls, who will just write about everything they’ve seen. The corruption, the misery-filled life of the normal policemen, the crappy system…

To be honest, to some degree I like the policemen as a theory. Their work is nasty, between the hammer and the anvil, with a lot of pressure, and for me a real honest policeman (if there’s still such a thing) is an extremely valuable person. There’s definitely the need for something to be done for those people, for example their honest survival must not be made impossible, but this has to happen with changes of the system, not with a weak attempt to try to paint over the broken structure…

It’s hard to defend them (I don’t even have a contract with MVR :) , but I’m thinking that if someone sits and writes a clean and in full the life of some police stations in Sofia and in the province, maybe it will become clear that except “Ushev”, who is on the other side of the law there are also a lot of good people that are doing their job. Maybe we’ll also find the way to reform the system easier, if all the problems are visible (not just the end result, that for example the policemen are the worst and most dangerous drivers in Sofia).
(who knows, it’s also possible that I’m too romantic for thinking that one structure with so much responsibilities must have a good quantity of quality people in it ?:) )

In the same train of thought, if I was good at writing I might’ve tried to get in the SBP (UBW) to get access to the police stations, etc., to see what’s it there for myself. I don’t feel like doing minor offences to be taken in often enough to get some glimpse, and I won’t be able to become a policeman as I won’t pass the physical :)

Нашата полиция определено и се иска да се върне в милиционерските времена – тия дни министърът е подписал договор със съюза на българските писатели за “…популяризиране на дейността на Министерството на вътрешните работи в писателските издания…”. Други хора вече дадоха забавни идеи за произведенията, които могат да се напишат, в стила например на нещата за Авакум Захов (известни с невероятната си плоскост)…

Има няколко глави от “Задочни репортажи за България” на Георги Марков за неговите срещи с полицията, докато е бил писател, точно с такава цел – да се запознае с работата на милицията и проблемите и, да се покаже пред обществото. Резултатът може да се види в “репортажите” – описание на всичко, с всичките неудобни моменти… Не се съмнявам, че ще се намерят достатъчно продажни писатели, които да пишат празни хвалебствия (чудно ми е кой ще се върже), но ще се намерят (искрено се надявам!) няколко силни души, които просто ще напишат всичко, което са видели. И корупцията, и мизерния живот на обикновените полицаи, и некадърността на системата…

Честно казано, аз донякъде даже харесвам полицаите като теория. Работата им е гадна, между чука и наковалнята, с много натоварване, и за мен един истински честен полицай (ако все пак има такова нещо) е страшно ценна личност. Определено има нужда да се направи нещо за тези хора, като например да не се прави честното им съществуване невъзможно, но това трябва да стане чрез смяна на системата, а не чрез мижав опит за боядисване върху строшената структура…

Трудно ми е да ги защитавам (даже нямам договор с МВР:) ), но си мисля, че ако някой вземе да опише съвсем чисто и пълно живота на няколко РПУ-та в София и провинцията, може би ще стане ясно, че освен “Ушев”, дето е от другата страна на закона, но и някакво количество свестни хора, дето си вършат работата. Може би и ще се намери отправна точка за реформа на системата, ако обществото види добре всичките проблеми на системата отвътре (а не само като крайното проявление, че например полицаите са най-малоумните и опасни шофьори в София например).
(кой знае, може аз да съм твърде романтичен и да считам, че една толкова отговорна структура не може да няма прилично количество свестни хора в себе си?:) )

Така като се замисля, ако можех да пиша, сигурно щях да се опитам да се набутам в СБП да получа достъп до самите РПУ-та и т.н., да видя сам какво е. Не ми се занимава с дребно хулиганство, та да ме прибират често и така да събирам наблюдения, па за полицай няма да ме приемат, не мога да издържа физическия изпит :)

Let me start with the constructive offer. People from IDG, especially miss Maltzeva, I’m offering you my services in exchange for two beers (the time it will take me) to set up a normal discussion system for you. Your current one can be shortly described as “shit with gunpowder” – there’s no moderation option, no way to separate the main discussion and the questions from other people and it uses an extremely crappy technology. Georgi Chorbadzhiyski has described perfectly the idea, and I have no problems implementing it for you… The only reason your current system has worked is the low attendance of those discussions.

And why I got so mad…

I got into the discussion from the beginning, but stayed until the moment in which Yavor Kolev sais that not his department has handled the case. I saw no reason for him to get involved in the discussion itself as we all know his technical and other abilities (e.g. the lack of those).

Also it was visible that there’s no way to normalize the discussion, something that happens in the so-called chat of IDG. In the torrents discussion some time ago it was also hard to see the answers from the questions. I have no idea why anyone there might think that a web chat is something good, as most such systems that I’ve seen are 1) ugly, 2) badly written, 3) thankfully, dead.

And after reading the WTF that’s linked in the beginning, the following sentence floated:

“Today’s discussion, with all the harassment and unrestrained words, for me showed the answer for the question in the opic – yes, we need censorship [of Internet].”

I confess, I felt bad. It’s shameful for a journalist to say that there’s need for censorship. It’s idiotic for a journalist in an IT publication to say that there’s need for Internet censorship, it shows a total misunderstanding of the matter – the technical side is a horror (even the Chinese aren’t handling it well), and the juridical part can feed a lot of lawyers for some generations, and damn, we’ve had enough censorship in our country, do we really need more? There are reasons for a journalist to say this – like the fear that Internet as a medium can make them obsolete – but I’ll refrain from assumptions…

WTF.

Нека да почна все пак с конструктивните предложения. Господа от IDG, по-точно г-це Малцева, предлагам си услугите срещу две бири (щото толкова време ще ми отнеме) да ви подкарам свястна система за дискусии. Текущата ви може да бъде окачествена накратко като “лайна с барут” – няма вариант за модерация, няма вариант за разделяне на главните дискутиращи и хората, които им задават въпроси и изобщо се използва бая куца технология. Жоро Чорбаждийски е описал перфектно идеята, аз нямам проблем да ви я реализирам… Единствената причина да ви е вършела работа досега е ниската посещаемост на тези дискусии.

А защо се вбесих толкова от цялата работа…

Влязох в дискусията от самото начало, но останах горе-долу до момента, в който Явор Колев каза, че не е неговия отдел този, който е свършил работа. Не видях смисъл да бъде намесван, при условие, че всички сме наясно с неговите технически и други способности (т.е. с липсата им).

Също така се виждаше, че няма начин да се нормализира тона на дискусията, нещо, което става много често в т.нар. chat на IDG. В дискусията за торентите реално от въпросите не можеха да се видят отговорите, тук се беше получило същото нещо. Изобщо не мога да си обясня защо хората там считат, че web chat-а е нещо хубаво, повечето системи, които съм виждал, са 1) гадни, 2) некадърни, 3) слава богу, умрели.

След което прочетох WTF-то от началото, и последното изречение ми се наби в очите:
“Днешната дискусия, с всички заяждания и невъздържани реплики, за мен показа отговора на поставения най-отгоре въпрос – да, цензура си трябва.”

Признавам си, лошо ми стана. Срамно е за един журналист да каже, че трябва да има цензура. Идиотско е един журналист в техническо издание да казва, че има нужда от цензура в Internet, показва сериозна незапознатост с материята – техническата страна е кошмар (даже и китайците не се справят особено добре), а юридическата може да храни много поколения адвокати, и по дяволите – имали сме достатъчно цензура в нашата малка държава, трябва ли ни още? Има причини, по които един журналист може да каже такова нещо – например страхът, че Internet като среда ще ги направи безсмислени – но не ми се ще да спекулирам по въпроса….

Today, while buying beer from a small shop while going to the anime meeting, one somewhat drunk old man joined our conversation and we got to the question “OK, if you’ve seen what’s abroad, why have you came back?” – it was weird for him that someone wanted to stay…

I was so close to telling him “You brought Bulgaria to this, we’ll fix it”, even though I knew that I would be wrong (it’s wrong to put all the blame on one person – for the other part my modesty won’t allow me to talk :) ).

So there’s no escape from this topic not only in the blogs, but even when you’re buying beer. I’m waiting for someone to ask this in the office…

Днес , докато си купувахме бира от едно магазинче, отивайки към аниме срещата, някакъв доста пийнал дядо се намеси в разговора ни и се стигна до въпроса “Добре де, след като се излизали навън и сте виждали какво е, защо сте се върнали тук?” – странно му беше кой би искал да остане…

На езика ми беше да му кажа “Вие я съсипахте България, ние ще я оправим”, въпреки че знаех, че няма да съм прав (най-малкото не е правилно да изсипеш цялата вина на един човек – за другото скромността няма да ми позволи да говоря :) ).

Та така, не само в блоговете няма спасение от темата, ами и докато човек си купува бира. Чакам някой да го зададе в офиса…

A few minutes ago I gave away my server to Dickov, one of the sysadmins at dobrich.net. I’m finally getting rid of it, I’ve been admin in the net since 201 (and in the net itself since around 1997). I can say a lot about all the crap that has happened there, but I don’t see the point now – the guilty ones know what they’ve done…

Преди малко си предадох сървъра на Диков, един от системните администратори в dobrich.net. Финално се отървавам, админ съм в мрежата от 2001 (а вися там от някъде 1997). Много мога да напиша за всичките глупости, случвали се там, но не виждам смисъл, поне за момента – те виновните сами си се знаят…

This is going to be an everyday one, as the rest of the stuff needs to stay a bit more in my head…

First, today my cousin gave birth to a girl, 2.750kg (I was the same weight), the baby’s name is Nia – congratulations :)
(does this make me an uncle?)

I’m looking for a new backpack, as my old one is dying, it survived me for two years. Here’s my current one, it has survived a lot of punishment from me (like putting inside 20m VGA cable, laptop, a projector and some more stuff), but with the quantity of books I’m carrying it seems I need a bigger one…

What else I’ve seen, like the new and old models of HP I don’t really like, and I had some quarrels with Samsonite on the warranty and wasn’t really happy… But if there’s a model that’s a bit bigger than my current one, with better handles I’ll buy it :)

So, does anyone have any ideas about that?

(topic that I’m thinking about writing – some observations on the support of a forum (anime.luodst), the last protest and why I have some bad thoughts about it, and may be (and hopefully not) something political).

Едно съвсем битово писание ще взема да драсна, че другото трябва да ми постои още малко в главата…

На първо място, днес братовчедка ми роди момиченце, 2.750кг (колкото съм бил аз), казва се Ния – да ни е честито :)
(това чичо ли ме прави?)

Търся си нова раница, че старата вече сдава багажа, изтрая ме две години. Ето това ми е текущата раница, издържа на голямо количество тормоз от моя страна (събирал съм вътре 20м VGA кабел, лаптоп, проектор и допълнения), но с количествата книги, които разнасям, май ми трябва и по-голяма…

Това, което съм виждал, като например стария и новия модел на HP не ми харесват изобщо, а Samsonite един път им се разправях за гаранцията и не ме зарадваха изобщо… Ако се намери малко по-голям модел на моята, с по-хубави дръжки обаче ще си го взема :)

Та някой да има идеи по въпроса?

Around the latest events in the blog-sphere, the police shit, protests, etc. some trolls started to show up.

Those are a set of scum that are trying:
1) To write posing as Michel in some comments, trying to provoke violence, etc.;
2) To write threatening comments (gentlemen from Spain and RDVR-P., why do you think we’re born yesterday?);
3) To behave as really smart and trying to pass wisdom to us, in the direction ‘keep quiet’ (e.g. not fully threatening).

On the responsibility I’ve written before. I feel no respect for people that don’t want to take the responsibility for what they’re writing, so whomever I catch after today I’ll write about online. To be known what they’re doing.
(at least they could do it as it should be, they can’t do one anonimisation right)

Около последните събития с блоговете, привикванията, протестите и т.н. започнаха да се появяват и първите troll-ващи коментари.

Т.е. набор от мижитурки и подобни се опитват:
1) Да се правят на Мишел в разни коментари, като искат да предизвикат насилие, безредици и т.н.;
2) Да пишат заплашителни коментари (господа от Испания и от РДВР-П., що си мислите, че ние живеем по дърветата?);
3) Да се правят на много умни и нравоучителни, в горе-долу посоката ‘мълчи си там’ (т.е. не съвсем откровено заплашващи).

За отговорността писах преди. Не изпитвам грам уважение към хората, които не искат да поемат отговорността за това, което пишат, точно заради което всички такива, които открия от тук нататък ще ги описвам, нека ги има online. Да знаят какво вършат.

Monday I got drunk. Extremely. In a Cuban bar with my favourite human for drinking, started with one cocktail (mine was mohito, but with some really good Cuban rakiya, called kashasa), then with big whiskies… Somehow I managed to go back home at 4, after I walked her home (she called me a cab, it was really needed :) ).

In the morning I helped Mira to bring her new big bed from the entrance to home (the delivery people refused), so I while being still asleep with all my talent managed to fall on the floor, to scrape my leg (there’s a great scar) and to hit my left shoulder in such a way that I dislocated it when afterwards I was putting on my bathrobe (I’m bloody good…).

And in spite of that I felt good, even without the tripe soup and with the weird feelings in the head… Stuff like this should happen at least every two months, so you can clean yourself.

And to remind you – tomorrow in front of NDK there’s a protest from 19:00, for Strandja and for the problem with Michel (optimiced). Details can be found at the horrific instigating rebellious site savestrandja.ludost.net.

В понеделник вечер се напих. Ама юнашки. В един кубински бар с любимия си човек за пиене, по един коктейл (моя беше мохито, само че с някаква доста добра кубинска ракия, кашаса се казва), и после по големи уискита … По някакъв начин се прибрах към 4, след като я изпратих (тя ми повика такси, имаше нужда :) ).

Сутринта помагах на Мира да си пренесе новата спалня от входа до вкъщи (доставящите не щяха), та съвсем талантливо недоспал успях да се издумкам на пода, да се одера по крака (бая белег съм направил) и да си хлопна ръката, така че после да я извадя, докато си обличам хавлията (ама съм талант…).

И все пак ми беше хубаво, въпреки липсата на шкембе чорба и странните усещания в главата ми… Изобщо хубаво е да се правят такива неща поне веднъж на два месеца, за да се прочисти човек.

Да спомена – утре пред НДК има демонстрация от 19:00, за Странжда и също за проблема с Мишел (optimiced). Подробности има на ужасния провокаторски бунтарски сайт savestrandja.ludost.net.

Responsibility.

Is the mother of it.

I’m reading the comments/articles aroundwhat happened with Mishel Bozgunov and the comments around it, and I definitely need to write the lines that follow.

(the people that read me know how tangled and misty I write – write to me to tell me what needs clarifying, as my thoughts are as tangled as my writings :) )

Let’s start from the phrase that the journalists have more protection than the normal people when they’re writing about such events, unlike the normal people. Someone asked – can’t we all bloggers be journalists?

No.

I’m one of the people that’s ashamed of most Bulgarian journalists. The thing with the protections sounds like “if you’re a journalist, you’ll get away with it’ (because someone is paying you to write it and he’s protecting you, for example). Also, there are some more reasons that I don’t want any special protection to be able to tell my own opinion:

1) Constitution of Republic of Bulgaria, Article 6. (1) All people are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

2) again there, Article 39. (1) Everyone has the right to express opinion and to spread it through speech – written or oral, through sound, image or in another way.

3) I CARRY my own responsibility for what I say. I accept it fully knowing that someone will try using my words against me, will find something threatening in them and will attack me, that it will disturb someone’s sleep, that I’m talking about getting rid of the current government and changing the system.

Let me elaborate on 3. I’m also hosting savestrandja.ludost.net, fully knowing what’s on the site and what are the messages in it. I’ve done by my own free will, fully understanding what I’m doing. I’ve taken that responsibility.

This will be the first chapter on what I’ll be writing on the topic of civil disobedience – the Responsibility. Because that’s what’s missing from most people that obey the circumstances, orders, rules, laws, etc. without questioning or thinking – refusing to take the responsibility for their actions, pushing it upwards. But when you decide not to obey, you take the full responsibility for your actions and their consequences.

That might include being taken in by the militia, pardon, police, some people might try to scare you, to shoot you (although this is rare, it’s kept mostly for quarrels in the high-level mutras, and we’re not that “high”), etc. fun things, which are mostly a (very) light form of the stuff that was before 1989. Even so there’s also the chance of some “inconvenient” people getting fired from companies that work with the state administration, just of their “inconvenient-ness” (and those companies know very well why they can work with the administration, even the kids know how exactly can you work for the state and get paid).

The fact still remains that to have a citizens’ society, a democratic state, etc. there must be one responsibility taken by the citizens. Not only from the ordinary people, only from the state administration, not only by the politicians, but by EVERYONE TOGETHER. Everyone must be able to take responsibility for his actions and non-actions – and if he/she cant, the rest must take the responsibility for him and act accordingly.

This means watching politicians and not allowing them to become corrupt – to be put on trial like everyone else, To take the responsibility for what they’ve done.

For the state officials to take responsibility for what they’re doing. To remember who’s usefulness have they been hired.

For us to take it. Not to give bribes to support the current system.
Not to stay quiet.
Not to be scared.
Not to follow the phrase “A heat that’s bent is not cut” (which has always sounded weird to me, it should be easier that way, at least from the technical point-of-view).
To carry our own responsibility for out participation in the different societal actions (for example, for voting – and also for not voting. Some people thing that voting is the end of their responsibilities).

History is not really in favour of the people that have taken the responsibility. The ones that haven’t obeyed orders were shot, the one that did we put on trial later and got away with less. Those, who kept quiet, lived, those who didn’t, suffered.
But just think what the world would be without those people.

Maybe the biggest crime of all communist and related regimes is the murder of the idea of personal responsibility – it just piled up, and when it got inconvenient, a scapegoat was found.
(for example, case 4/1990 and the results of it (or the lack of such)).
(the same crime is being done also now, because nobody is teaching responsibility to the children.)

And to finish this somewhat messed up writing – it might sound weird, but The responsibility is important part of freedom. Truth, responsibility and struggle make freedom possible.
