In the morning I woke up really early – around 6:40, and normally managed to get up, get a bath, and get ready. And I almost got late, because I had received a bulgarian spam last night, so I was benchmarking their site…
(their letter said “This isn’t spam”, and in the headers of the benchmark I wrote “This isn’t flood”).

Niki picked me up at NDK, and we got to the place of the wedding right after Zhoro – we entered almost with the limo (there was a big traffic jam on our way).

The wedding itself was really fun event – full with all kinds of rituals (according to one their first children with be a girl, which Zhoro didn’t like :) ), there were a few thousand photos made (Anton was again looking like a killer with that camera, and his quote was “You’ll be thinking that I’m taking a picture of you to the last moment”), we drank, ate, had fun (there was a playground nearby, from which we nearly kicked the children out), in general – a full-scale party. And the most important thing is that it went normally, without problems – no one felt in the pool, no one puked, and there wasn’t anyone really drunk, really great organization :)

It’s important to be noted that Pentchev defended the honor of all computer guys by dancing at almost everything (the rest of us weren’t up to the task). And Techo gave me a penguin-keyring, that is also a can-opener (something really useful).

And my head hurts after all the things I drank…

Сутринта се събудих странно рано – около 6:40, и спокойно успях да стана, да се изкъпя, и да се приготвя. Пак за малко да закъснея, понеже бях получил един български spam предната вечер, та се занимавах да bechmark-вам сайта на хората…
(в писмото им пишеше “Това не е спам”, в header-ите на benchmark-а пишеше “Това не е flood”).

Ники ме взе от НДК, и се добрахме до мястото на сватбата малко след Жоро – влязохме точно зад лимузината (по пътя имаше страшно задръстване).

Самата сватба беше много весело преживяване – пълна беше със всякакви ритуали (според единия излезе, че първото им дете ще е момиче, което Жоро май не го хареса особено :) ), направиха се хиляди снимки (Антон пак изглеждаше като убиец с тоя обектив, и лафа му за деня беше “До последния момент ще си мислите, че ще ви снимам”), пихме, ядохме, веселихме се (имаше една катерушка, и направо изгонихме децата оттам), изобщо – купон с пълна сила. Най-важното е, че мина бая прилично, нямаше никой паднал в басейна, никой повърнал, никой пиян като кирка да прави глупости, с две думи – страхотна организация :)

Важен факт е, че Пенчев отсрами всички компютърджии, като танцува на почти всичко (изглежда останалите не ставаме за тая работа). Течо ми подари пингвин-ключодържател, който е и отварачка за бира (доста полезна играчка).

Мен след цялото преживяване ме боли главата, от всичките изпити работи …

In the morning I went to Lirex, to reinstall lugburz.zadnik.org – the machine had a pretty seriuos problem, and Velin didn’t have the time. It was something special, although the configuration he wanted was a bit weird (two hard drives, each with 7 partitions, made in couples in RAID1). In the middle there was a problem, one of the memory chips died, so I needed to start from the beginning, but in the end the machine’s working, now he has to copy some old stuff to it.

At Slaveykov the people found me 3th and 4th volumes of the complete works of Nikolay Gentchev (his memoirs were the 5th). Nice, thick books…

And I got mail – I’ve passed 201:

Сутринта ходих до Лирекс, за да преинсталирам lugburz.zadnik.org – машината имаше бая сериозен проблем, а Велин нямаше време. Не беше нещо особено, въпреки извратената конфигурация, която трябваше да направя (два диска , на всеки 7 partition-а, и направени два по два в софтуерен RAID1). По средата имаше проблем, единия чип памет изгоря, та се наложи да почвам отначало, но в крайна сметка машината работи, сега остава да и се пуснат старите неща.

На Славейков ми намериха 3ти и 4ти том от събраните съчинения на Николай Генчев (спомените му бяха 5ти). Хубави, дебели книги…

There’s a almost-ready agenda for What the Hack, full with fun stuff :)

Today we fought a bit more with mod_perl on zver.fsa, turns out that it always puts charset=ISO-8859-1, whatever we do with it, so inthe end we moved to CGI, and it worked (weird, there wasn’t such problem with apache 1.3).

All of the lectures from Stara Zagora are ready and uploaded, mirrored in Bulgaria and abroad, I also made separate audio files, for the people with slower links. For everyone who’s interested here’s the script I used (thanks again to Ivan Kalvachev):

Вече има донякъде готова програма на What the Hack, пълна е със забавни неща :)

Днес борихме още известно време mod_perl на zver.fsa, оказа се, че винаги слага charset=ISO-8859-1, каквото и да го правим, та накрая минахме от mod_perl на CGI, и сработи (странно, с apache 1.3 проблема го нямаше).

В крайна сметка всичкото кодиране на лекциите от Стара Загора е готово, качени са в България и на едно място навън, направих и отделни аудио файлове, за хората с по-слаба връзка. За интересуващите се ето и скрипта, с който правих нещата (и пак да благодаря на Иван Кълвачев):

Last night I managed to finish reading “My name is red” by Orhan Pamuk – a really great book, when I have the time I’ll get his other one that’s published in bulgarian. Through the day I managed to read “The exceptional Morris” by Pratchett, another nice book.

I mostly worked on the encoding of the lectures – the encoded files are ready, now I have to cut and paste them a bit, and then upload them. I’ll probably announce them for download tomorrow. Something interesting was that the laptop (Pentium M/1.6) was twice as fast as the workstation (Pentium 4/1.5).

I also installed apache2 on zver.fsa-bg.org, for Kaloyan to be able to install some stuff for subversion – I don’t remember what… It was a bit of struggle, with this mod_perl, but mostly worked, now Yassen is left to fix a problem in TWiki with the encodings.

In the evening there was IBB, the usual jolly crowd…

Снощи успях да свърша “Името ми е червен” на Орхан Памук – наистина страхотна книга, като имам време ще си взема и другата, излязла на български. През деня успях да изчета и “Изключителния Морис” на Пратчет, също доста приятна книга.

Основното ми занимание беше кодирането на лекциите – кодирания вариант е готов, сега следват малко лепене и рязане, след което – upload. Вероятно утре ще мога да ги обявя за теглене. Интересно при кодирането беше, че лаптопа ми (Pentium M/1.6) се справи два пъти по-бързо от работната станция (Pentium 4/1.5).

Инсталирах и apache2 на zver.fsa-bg.org, за да може Калоян да инсталира нещата около subversion – вече не помня и за какво точно бяха… Беше си донякъде борба, с тоя mod_perl, но почти стана, остана Ясен да оправи един проблем в TWiki-то около кодировките.

Вечерта последва ИББ, стандартната веселба…

There’s something really nice in this season – the fruits, especially the strawberries and the cherries. With strawberries I can even poison myself…

In the morning I went to see my brother, we went through Slaveykov, and then I went home. I ate about a kilogram of cherries, read a bit more of Orhan Pamuk’s book (it’s really good), and slept until 8 in the evening.

In the evening I played a bit with my wireless board on the notebook, and listened a bit to what’s outside (about 5-6 networks). It’s really great to stay outside on the balcony in the rain, and to work on the machine :) Tomorrown, when it’s a bit drier and more quiet I’ll leave kismet to listen a bit more and to see if there’s some network that I can use as a backup :)

I did some test for the encoding of the movies from Stara Zagora (a mail from Ivan Kalvachev helped a lot, thanks!:) ), in the moment I’m encoding the lectures from day two (two passes, with about 10fps), then I’ll start with the ones from day one, when I see what’s the result. Right now it looks pretty well…

Има нещо много хубаво в тоя сезон – плодовете, особено ягодите и черешите. С ягоди особено мога да се натровя…

Сутринта ходих да се видя с брата, минахме през Славейков, и после се прибрах. Изядох около килограм череши, почетох още малко от книгата на Орхан Памук (наистина е много добра), и дремнах до 8 вечерта.

Вечерта си поиграх да подкарам wireless платката на notebook-а си, и да слушам какво има наоколо (около 5-6 мрежи). Много е весело да се стои на терасата в дъжда, и да се цъка по машината :) Утре сутрин като е малко по-сухо и спокойно ще оставя kismet-а да послуша и да каже как стои въпроса, дали пък няма някоя мрежа, дето да ползвам като резервна :)

Направих тестове за кодирането на филмите от Стара Загора (много ми помогна едно писмо от Иван Кълвачев, благодаря!:) ), в момента върви кодирането на тези от втория ден (на два pass-а, и с някъде около 10fps), после ще хвана тези от първия ден, като видя какво се е получило. За момента резултатите изглеждат добре …

The day was mostly going around – my father was in Sofia, so I went to see him at the office, and on my way I went to take the laptop I’ll be configuring for him. Then I went out with my brother to eat, and then to Ceco, to take the recordings of the first day at Stara Zagora, which we made on his drive (59G) (I’ll begin the encoding tomorrow). In the evening I installed the new laptop, I’m making it a nice user-friendly machine (something I’m not used to :) ), and then will be writing some documentation on it.

And now for some sleep, because it was a tough day, most of it with two laptops on my back, and was hot.

p.s. on the 26th Bulgara will be playing at O!Shipka, at the 12th – Balkandji.

Деня беше свързан с бая ходене напред-назад – баща ми беше в София, та ходих до офиса, като по пътя минах да взема лаптопа, който ще правя за него. После се разходих с брат ми да хапнем, и след това до Цецо, за да взема записите от първия ден от Стара Загора, които правихме на неговия диск (59GB) (encode-ването ще го почна утре, на спокойствие). Вечерта инсталирах новия laptop, правя удобна потребителска машина (което не е нещо, с което съм свикнал :) , и после ще и пиша документация.

А сега ще взема да спя, че деня много ми дойде, повечето време бях с двата лаптопа на гръб, и си беше жега.

In the morning I got up with a headache and under-slept. I had a hard time time getting up and coming to life, but we managed to get at 11:10 to the hall, for me to start the live feed. Followed two lectures, which I didn’t listen to, because I felt really beat, and mostly stayed outside (I just made some comments on Sertys’ lecture), In the end I told everyone about WTH, and then followed the LPI exam.

At the exam itself I was the only one to try to take 201, the rest were on 101. It was again an interesting exam, with some questions that were pretty hard, but I think that I did it (and in the middle of the exam I got a horrible headache). We’ll see what I’ve done in a few weeks :)

Then we went back to Sofia. In the beginning there was some hail, which we waited to finish under a tree, then a heavy rain, some clearing of the sky, and near Pazardzhik – the biggest storm I’ve seen. There was a really strong wind, there was almost no visibility because of the rain, a lot of cars had stopped under the bridges to wait, and when we stopped at Shell – Pazardzhik to charge, we got really wet (in spite of the presence of the shed). There was something not normal in the storm (but the lightnings were great). I did some photos with Zhoro’s camera, he’ll probably be upload them soon.

In Sofia it was sunny… We saw another interesting view – 4 Lamborginies at the crossing ant NDK’s bridge, I managed to take some not-really-good photo of them, let’s see if it’s any good.

What a night.

We made a fun dinner, where we discussed fun things like a software video mixer, we spoke with Nasko on the topic of making presentations. After some nice drinking we decided to look for another pub, but we couldn’t find a good one, the company split, and me, Pipo, Anton and Rosen (the little one) sat in a snack shop, drank beers and spoke on whatever the topic leaned to (like the significance of learning mathematics)

At some point Zhoro, Emarald, Pentchev and co, together with Bobson (who wasn’t ok, and got some rest on the table while we were finishing out beers) showed up. Then with some efforts we helped Bobson reach the hotel, he went to sleep, and the rest of us gathered in our room, where right now Zhoro is playing some boring music.

I have no idea how much did I drink, but tonight’s record isn’t mine.

Сутринта станах с главоболие и недоспал. Едвам се освестих и изкъпах, и успяхме в 11:10 да се доберем до залата, за да пусна предаването на живо. Последваха две лекции, които аз не слушах, понеже се чувствах бая утрепан, и основно стоях навън (само на тази на Sertys направих малко забележки). Накрая разказах на хората за WTH, и последва LPI изпита.

На самия изпит само аз се явявах на 201, останалите на 101. Пак беше добър изпит, с разни въпроси, които наистина доста ме озориха, но мисля, че все пак се справих (освен всичко, по средата на изпита ме заболя зверски главата). Ще видим след няколко седмици какви съм ги свършил :)

Последва прибиране в София. В началото на пътя имаше малко градушка, която изчакахме да премине под едно дърво, последва силен дъжд, малко прочистване на небето, и около Пазарджик – най-голямата буря, на която съм присъствал. Духаше страшен вятър, от дъжда почти нищо не се виждаше, много коли бяха спрели под мостовете да изчакат, а като слязохме на Shell – Пазарджик да заредим, се намокрихме здраво (въпреки навеса). Имаше нещо ненормално в тая буря (но светкавиците бяха страхотни). Направих някакво количество снимки с апарата на Жоро, сигурно той ще ги качи по някое време.

В София пък си беше направо слънчево… Видяхме и друга интересна гледка – 4 Ламборждинита на кръстовището до моста на НДК, едвам успях да ги щракна, да видим дали е излязло нещо от снимката.

Ебаси вечерта.

Направихме една весела вечеря, на която обсъждахме интересни неща, например софтуерен видео смесител, и си говорехме с Наско на темата как се правят презентации. След приятно насмукване и хапване решихме да си търсим друга кръчма, но нещо не успяхме, компанията се раздели и аз, Pipo, Антон и Росен (малкия) седнахме в една закусвалня, да пием бирички, и да си говорим за какво ли не (за смисъла от ученето на математиката например).

По някое време се появиха Жоро, Emerald, Пенчев и компания, заедно с Бобсън, който не беше добре, и си почина на масата, докато допивахме поредните бири. После с дружни усилия му помогнахме да стигнем до хотела, той си легна да спи, а останалите се събраха в нашата стая, където в момента Жоро ни пуска скучна музика. Спи ми се.

Не знам колко пих, но съм сигурен, че рекорда от тая вечер не е мой.

In the morning I managed to get up somehow, after which we flew of from NDK to Stara Zagora, and managed to reach it for less than two hours… On the way we passed through a pretty serious rain, and saw something like a parade of old cars – there was even a “Chaika”. We managed also to write the first version of Nasko’s presentation.

At the seminar we managed to arrange and install the equipment on time, and began the transmission. There were problem, some drops in the line, and some weirdness either in the camera or the firewire interfaces, this one should be checked. I should write something useful that can download, buffer and show what’s on in the moment.

The lectures themselves were interesting – mine didn’t put anyone to sleep, the one on the course in TU was interesting, the one on spam too, now the only thing left is the one about OpenFMI, and we’ll be out drinking. The attendance is like the last year’s, probably because there’s a live feed, and some people are watching it remotely.

And on the remark that on my lecture I wasn’t green but yellow crocodile – there is a reason, and I explained in the beginning :)

Сутринта успях по някакъв начин да отлепя, след което от НДК излетяхме ниско към Стара Загора, в общи линии стигнахме за по-малко от два часа… По пътя минахме през един бая сериозен дъжд, и видяхме нещо като парад на старите коли – имаше даже една “Чайка”. Успяхме в движение и да на направим първия вариант на презентацията на Наско.

На семинара успяхме да разположим техниката в срок, и започнах предаването. Имаше си проблеми, пропадания на връзката, и разни странности или от камерата, или някъде из firewire интерфейсите, това трябва да го прегледам от какво беше. Трябва и да си направя нещо свястно, което може да сваля, буферира и показва какво върви в момента.

Самите лекции бяха интересни – моята не приспа хората, тази за курса в ТУ беше интересна, тази за spam-а също, сега остава да мине тази за OpenFMI, и отиваме да пием. Като посещаемост е нещо като миналата година, сигурно защото има предаване на живо, и някои хора го гледат отдалечено.

Колкото до забележката, че на моята лекция съм бил не зелен, а жълт крокодил – то си има причина, и я обясних в началото :)

The day passed mostly in walks through the musical stores, to look for the Irfan album (and we didn’t find it). If it turns out that the groups isn’t carrying, I’ll be ordering it through Dyukyan Meloman …

While going around with Bobson, we saw a poster for a concert of “Natural Born Wizards”, at the 29th in the evening, to promote the CD that accompanies a play based on a Pratchett book. Has someone heard something about this?

I’ll be going to sleep, tomorrow I have to get up really early.

Деня мина основно в разходка по музикалните магазини, да търсим албума на Irfan (и не го намерихме). Ако се окаже, че и групата не носи, ще се поръчва през Дюкян Меломан …

Докато обикаляхме с Бобсън, видяхме един афиш на “Natural Born Wizards”, концерт на 29 вечерта за промоция на диска към някаква българска постановка по книга на Пратчет. Някой да е чувал нещо по въпроса?

Аз отивам да спя, че утре ме чака бая ранно ставане.
