Аман бе, каква част от бюджета отива за тежки наркотици при тия хора? Дипломи при нас се продават с всичките екстри и регистрации, може да се каже от самия университет (е, или поне от хората, от които зависи цялата документация). При нас корупцията е станала (е, надявам се не навсякъде) част от цялата система, от началото до края, това само ще вдигне цената на цялото нещо без някакъв сериозен ефект…

Ако им е такъв проблем отпечатването на фалшифицирани дипломи, защо просто не направят публичен списъка с дипломирани студенти? Далеч по-лесно, полезно и ефективно би било.

За камерите – Пейо е написал достатъчно по въпроса. Определено обаче е полезна идеята да ги сложим тия камери на политиците.

Seems like there’s hope for the Bulgarian literature…

Lately I’ve been finding mostly good Bulgarian books – I just finished “The round fish” by Momchil Nikolov. Nicely thick book, different and interesting story lines, I really liked it, maybe the best I’ve read in Bulgarian in the last few years (excluding Georgi Markov).

В последно време попадам на разни добри български книги – преди малко изчетох “Кръглата риба” на Момчил Николов. Достатъчно дебела книга, различни и доста интересни сюжети, изобщо – много ми допадна, може би най-доброто на български автор в последните няколко години, което ми е попадало (е, като изключим Георги Марков).

I don’t have high temperature now (Wednesday/Thursday there were moments with 38.9, which were just out-of-this-world, but those passed away), so I sat to finish some of the urgent tasks.

So I hit one of my problems… I did the thing, with the planning, thinking of the details and the minimal details, just to find out after a few hours (because I got told) an elementary and stupid problem… Not like it’s not an extremely mangled site, written with a few different frameworks by half of the programmers in the company, but for this small thing I should’ve remembered myself…
Why I always miss exactly one small thing? It’s extremely annoying.

Нямам вече температура (в сряда/четвъртък имаше моменти с 38.9 и едни сънища, дето ум да ти зайде, но отминаха), та седнах да свърша малко от спешните задачи.

И пак се набих в един такъв мой проблем. Свърших нещото, с подготовка, внимателно премисляне на детайлите и минимален downtime, само за да открия след няколко часа (понеже ми казаха) елементарен и глупав проблем… Не може да се отрече, че ставаше въпрос за объркан сайт, писан с няколко различни framework-а от половината програмисти, минали през фирмата, но все пак за тая дреболия трябваше и сам да се сетя…
Изобщо – защо винаги изтървам точно една дреболия? Адски дразнещо.

In short – angina and close systolic and diastolic of the blood pressure, 38.7 temperature at noon, 37.6 now. Antibiotics and sleep… Zhilin will have to entertain the readers while I’m away.

Накратко – ангина и близки граници на кръвното, 38.7 температура по обяд, 37.6 сега. Антибиотици и спане… Жилин ще трябва да забавлява аудиторията, докато ме няма.

People know Chuck Palahniuk as the author of “Fight Club”…

The last two books I read were written by him – “Snuff” and “Rant”. Both of them are told from the viewpoints of a few people, as the second one is something like a biography of a man, made of the interviews with different people. The first one tells about a porn-star, that has decided to sleep with 600 men and to make a new record, the second – about a mass murderer, working through spreading rabies…

Definitely “Rant” is the better one, with more elements and events, but in the end both deserve to be read. Palahniuk is not only a good story-teller, but also finishes his books in a right way…

And who knows, as “Fight club” started some such clubs, with “Rant” someone might decide to implement Party crashing…

Чък Паланюк хората май го знаят основно като автор на “Fight club”…

Последните две книги, които прочетох, са негови – “Snuff” и “Rant”. И двете се разказват от гледната точка на няколко човека, като втората е като биография на един човек, съставена от интервюта с всякакви хора. В първата се разказва за една порно-звезда, която е решила да преспи с 600 човека и да постави нов рекорд, втората – за масов убиец, който действал чрез разпространяване на зараза от бяс…

Определено Rant e по-добрата от двете книги, с много повече елементи и случки, но в крайна сметка и двете си струват да се прочетат. Паланюк не само умее да разказва добре, но и приключва книгите си както трябва…

А знам ли, както “Fight club” доведе до създаването на разни такива клубове, след “Rant” някой може да реши да пробва да реализира Party crashing…

Turns out that a few days ago another book by Victor Pelevin was published – “Werewolf metamorphoses” (the original is “Священная Книга Оборотня”, something like “The holy book of the shape-shifters”) – he has written a … love story, in his own way. Wonderful book, at some moments you really need to stop and think on the philosophy explained there. It’s not as hard as “Chapayev and Void” (“Buddha’s Little Finger, a.k.a. clay machine gun” in English), but that doesn’t stop you from really enjoying the book.
(and I’m thankful for the book, as I haven’t read anything seriously in Bulgarian in the last months)

Today I also went to The House of Rising Force, a shop for musical instruments to look for a bass guitar. There was one set for beginners with a precission bass and an amplifier/speaker, but I asked a bit more and in the end it turned out they have a fretless bass, which felt like the right instrument… The main problem with it is that is’ the hardest one to learn and that even professionally it’s not used a lot, so I’ll think a bit more until tomorrow if it’s going to be this or a regular one.

Оказа се, че тия дни са издали нова книжка на Пелевин – “Върколашки метаморфози” (“Священная Книга Оборотня” е оригиналното заглавие) – човека е написал … любовна история, но по свой начин. Страхотна книга, на моменти се налага да се спре и да се помисли много внимателно върху философията, която се обяснява вътре. Не настига по трудност “Чапаев и Пустота”, но това определено не пречи да се наслаждава човек на книгата.
(добре че беше това, че отдавна не бях чел сериозно на български)

Днес се разходих до The house of rising force, магазин за музикални инструменти, за да си търся бас. Имаше един комплект за начинаещи с precision бас и кубе, ама аз все пак поразпитах и в крайна сметка се оказа, че имат и fretless бас (т.е. такъв без прагчета), който като усещане и идея ми звучи като правилния инструмент… Основния проблем е, че е най-сложния за научаване и че професионално се използват доста рядко, та ще се чудя до утре дали да е това или някой нормален инструмент.

Last night Alexander Isayevich Solzhenitsyn died.

A great author, a great man. One of the most effecting authors I’ve read.

It’s really sad that he couldn’t finish the “Red Wheel” cycle, it’s even sadder that he’s not being translated. I really hope that would change…

May he rest in peace.

Много е жалко, че не можа да довърши цикъла за “Червеното колело”, още по-жалко е, че почти не го превеждат. Искрено се надявам това да се промени…

And a bit on the cultural topic, which deserves another post.

I’ve been going through the books by Iain M. Banks from the series on the Culture – after “Matter” I read “Consider Phlebas”, “Excession” and “Inversion”, and right now I’m re-reading “The Player of Games” in it’s original (which seems to be the best in the series until now). The books are written with a really wide scope, close to the hard fiction and remind me a lot of the Strugatski brothers with their series of the Progressors and Strangers.
The next in the list is “The Algebraist”, which is set in another world, let’s see how it will be.

And yesterday I found “Pushing ice” by Raynolds in Orange – I should look up the rest of his stuff in original, as the Bulgarian translation is pretty horrible (at some points you need to translate the thing back in English to understand it). I also got two books in Bulgaria (“The round fish” and one by Mihail Veshim), because I’ve been reading mostly in English lastly…

(And to clear my head I downloaded the whole Robot chicken and watched it. It’s incredible.)

И малко по културната тема, което си заслужава отделен post.

Дъвча усилено книгите на Iain M. Banks от серията за Културата – след “Matter” минах през “Consider Phlebas”, “Excession” и “Inversion”, в момента препрочитам “The Player of Games” в оригинал (която май е най-добрата от серията до момента). Книгите са писани с размах, доста близо са до твърдата фантастика и реално много напомнят по някои идеи за нещата на братя Стругацки от серията с Прогресорите и Странниците.
Следващата в списъка е “The Algebraist”, която се развива в друг като идея свят, да видим как ще е.

А вчера си намерих “Pushing ice” на Рейнолдс в Orange – трябва да се хвана и да си намеря другите му неща в оригинал, понеже българския му превод е известен като един от прилично ужасните такива (човек му се налага да си преведе нещото обратно на английски, за да го разбере). Взех си и две книжки на български (“Кръглата риба” и една на Михаил Вешим), понеже в последно време май чета само на английски…

(А за разнообразие си свалих целия Robot chicken и го изгледах. Страшни са.)

One who writes rarely writes twice.

To begin with, we finally deployed the new system Friday, with some features cut out (but it also has all the stuff the old one had). There’s something very nice in playing the Imperial march and running a few killall commands…

I also had some more fun things to do, like setting up telephony through cabletel (they use something weird on their side, but at least they’re nice people and we cleaned up the issues prettu fast), swore a lot at the SIP protocol (I even reminded myself on how nice things like irc and talkd are)…
I don’t have a lot of memories on what I’ve done through the week, which has become something natural for me (so I need to look at the timesheets and the twitter). I mostly remember what I said about a problem: “In such cases I wonder why the hell do I come sober to work”.

There’s a site for HAR2009, it has to be attended :)

I have to write a lecture with chervarium to present at a few events in September and December, and we still haven’t started. This isn’t good…

Който пише рядко, пише по два пъти.

Като за начало – най-накрая в петък пуснахме новата система, в малко орязан вид (но си има всички неща, които и старата имаше). Има нещо много приятно в това да си пуснеш Imperial march и да пуснеш няколко killall команди…

Имах и разни други забавни занимания, например пускане на телефония през cabletel (ползват нещо криво и странно от другата страна, ама поне хората там са свестни и лесно се разбрахме), препсувах още няколко пъти SIP-а като протокол (чак се замислих колко прекрасни неща за irc и talk)…
Нямам особени спомени и какво съм правил през седмицата, което май е почнало да става съвсем естествен момент (съответно си гледам timesheet-а и twitter-а). Единствения спомен май ми е репликата около един проблем: “В такива момент се чудя защо идвам трезвен на работа”.

Има сайт за HAR2009, трябва да се ходи :)

Имам да пиша с червото лекция за едно или две събития през септември и декември, и още не сме почнали. Това изобщо не е на добре…

I finished watching a few minutes ago “The return of Ku-ku”, done by the “Alma mater” television…

For example the whole idea about a talk show in this case is horrible. The hosts are extremely bad and un-natural, as the all the new actors, I really have no idea why didn’t they drink two vodkas beforehand – it would’ve helped… The archive material they’re playing is magnitudes better and the contrast is killing them.

Vladi Vargala somewhat saves the situation, the diary of the student can really be developed (not like they can’t find enough material), and the student that lived illegally in Studentski grad, etc. is probably the best part in the new sequences (although the part with “it’s your fault” really got on my nerves).

A birdie around “Alma mater” told me that this wasn’t the original scenario, but the old guys from KuKu had given too much input and pushed, so they won’t make any problems with the name, and the original was great – dunno, I don’t really see why for example they didn’t change the ime. It’s really ugly to see young enthusiastic people to yield so easily to such crap and to fuck up the situation and to get in the track of the weak and mediocre programs that (I’m guessing, I don’t watch TV:) ) can be seen now on Channel 1.
(ugly stuff, it’s like their first sex was getting raped through the ears).

Pathetic story.
