We’ll have a new course in FMI – different case studies of the system and network administration with Linux. The course is every Thursday in hall 325 of FMI from 19:00 (some days it might be from 18:00, we’ll notify the people beforehand. Some notes that I should remember tomorrow.

I’ll be joining a new course in FMI, which is coming to be really interesting, tomorrow I’ll write some more.

Two coffees are neutralized well by three beers.
(I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night. Not that I’m sorry about the reason for under-sleeping…)

Correlator for the logs for a few nagios-es can be written pretty easy – I needed some walking in the clean air to clean up the basic idea. In general, a database of beginning and end of the state of a service with a separate information of the state of the checking place in relation to the rest and calculating the weight based on it – shouldn’t be hard to write with some scripting and SQL.

There’s an interesting event in Harvartska in a month or two, I might speak there (Marian tells me that it’s still possible), let’s see.

Seems like that we fixed the ugly bug that we fought for three weeks. I have digital-analog conversions and the problems related to them

Корелатор за log-овете от няколко nagios-а може да се напише доста лесно – трябваше ми да повървя малко на въздух само, да измисля някакъв приличен вариант. В общи линии описване в база с начало и край на състояние на услуга от определено място заедно с отделно описание на състояние на мястото спрямо останалите и така смятане на неговата тежест – не би трябвало да е особено сложно да се напише с малко скриптиране и SQL.

Има весело събитие в Хърватска след месец-два, може и да говоря на него (Мариян твърди, че все още имам възможност), да видим.

Май оправихме гадния бъг, дето го гонихме три седмици. Мразим аналогово-цифрови преобразувания и произхождащите гнусни проблеми.

Today is a day for forgiveness. You ask for it and it’s given to you…

I can’t see the meaning. If there was something I had to forgive for, I won’t do it just because of this day, and if someone has to forgive me, to do it just because of this holiday seems a bit meaningless.

When something is too easy, it loses its meaning… Forgiveness has to be earned, or there’s no point in it if it’s for something that passes with time.

Днес се води ден на прошката. Човек иска прошка и му я дават…

На мен смисъла ми се губи. Ако има нещо, за което прощавам и не съм простил, няма да го направя и заради някакъв такъв ден, а ако някой има да прощава на мен, да го направи само заради празника пак ми се вижда безсмислено.

Когато нещо стане твърде лесно, си губи смисъла… Прошката трябва да се заслужи, или просто да няма нужда от нея, ако е за нещо, дето просто минава с времето.

From time to time some game pops up in the blogs – to write on some topic (five things that aren’t known about you, albums to take on a desert island, etc.) and to pass it to someone else, which have always seemed a bit boring…

So I’ve decided to start one that’s a bit more fun… It’s called “Pander^WHelp a friend”. The idea is to have a post like the one I made for Peio for one of you single friends and pass the torch to the next victim :)

От време на време по блоговете се появява някаква игра – да пишеш по някаква тема (пет неща, дето не се знаят за тебе, албуми за вземане на самотен остров и т.н.) и да предаваш на други блогъри, които винаги са ми се виждали леко скучни – няма чак толкова тръпка в тях.

За това съм решил да пусна една игра, която да е малко по-весела… Казва се “Сводничи^WПомогни на другарче”. Идеята е да се пусне една обява като тая, която пуснах за Пейо за произволен ваш необвързан приятел/приятелка и да предадете нататък, към други жертви :)

Колкото до смисъла на цялата работа – иде пролет, ще е интересно да се чуе за нови хора из блогосферата, а и идиотския фактор на идеята хич не е за пренебрегване…

Та подавам щафетата, на Варели с Дачев, Боримечката и … (я да си харесаме още някой) Енея.

Kultur Shock are grand.

The concert began with Balkandji and Cherno Ferede – it was nice (I hadn’t gone to a concert of theirs in a long time), they played a lot of well-known stuff which everybody sang (and which we even sing in the office from time to time :) ). After that Kultur Shock came on stage…

It was incredible. Great mosh, wonderful music, they gave themselves away, came out for three encores (one of them they did “Chai shukarie” and when they got off stage the crowd sang the refrain a few times before they came back). I’ll probably lack any voice tomorrow, but will have a muscle fever (if I don’t find my aspirin).

Also it should be noted that the Kultur Shock concerts show something that’s really lacking otherwise – the love between the Balkan nations. Everybody sang “Istanbul”, “Saraevo”, etc., even the company of macedonians that was next to me. The band itself is a demonstration of this – a Serbian, Bosnian and a Bulgarian at the same place …

(a side note – “blackbox” was not big enough. Can this be in a hall like “Hristo Botev” next time?)

Kultur Shock са велики.

Започна се с Балканджи и Черно фередже – беше забавно (отдавна не им бях ходил на концерти), свириха все познати неща, дето се пяха стабилно (и които си пеем из офиса от време на време :) ). След което на сцената дойдоха Kultur Shock…

Беше размазващо. Страшно пого, страхотна музика, раздадоха се докрай, три пъти излизаха на бис (единия път правиха “Чай шукарие” и след като слязоха от сцената публиката пяхме припева няколко пъти, преди те пак да излязат). Аз вероятно утре няма да имам глас, за сметка на което ще имам мускулна треска (ако не си намеря аспирина).

Също трябва да се отбележи, че концертите на Kultur Shock изкарват на показ нещо, което иначе липсва – любовта между балканските народи. Всички пяха и “Истанбул”, и “Сараево” и т.н., и т.н., включително и компанията македонци, дето беше до мене. То и самата група е демонстрация на тоя принцип – сърбин, босненец и българин на едно място …

I have a really good friend, whom I want to help – Peio Popov. He needs a woman, because he’s getting really crazy.
(this is the result of one beer-drinking with him and Velin)

Some information about him:
Dimensions: 195cm height, 105 kg weight;
He’s trained boxing some years ago (it’s visible on his figure, his face is not broken enough);
Likes running (e.g. he’s tenacious);
He has a good sense of humor (although a bit weird);
Said he likes to sleep with the girl cuddled (which is a rare gift);
(he also says that he’s really warming)
A good IT specialist;
There’s always something you can talk to him about;
Likes poetry.

Some requirements for the woman:
To be brunette (this is somewhat of a discrimination);
To be at least 21 years old (the rule half of his age plus 7);
To be about half of his weight;
To be able to drink with her (this is something every real woman can);
Not to be slow or depressive;
(not slow – e.g. to be able to walk with him when he’s in a hurry)
It’s not a problem if she’s technically competent :) ;
To be able to think (this was something I had to enunciate);
To like the outdoors (this is something that Peio has to elaborate);
Acrobatic;
Not to be scared easily.

Имам един много добър приятел, на който искам да помогна – Пейо Попов. Той има нужда от жена, защото тотално се побърква.

Тренирал е бокс като по-млад (личи му по фигурата, иначе не са му намачкали достатъчни физиономията);

The blog got renamed to Terrarium of Soberness, because there’s one more person writing in it – Ivan Zhilin. He’s also a sober guy like me (he’s a part of the inventory in a place where they also server non-alcoholic drinks) and is of the type of animal that can be found in a terrarium.

It’s not like that I don’t have multiple personalities, but my parts use my name when they write here.

Also this cup on my desk is not vodka, but natural juice Sobieski.

I’m tired.

Блогът последно беше преименуван на Terrarium of Soberness, понеже има още един пишещ в него – Иван Жилин. Той е също такъв трезвеник като мен (част е от инвентара на едно заведение, в което е се сервира и безалкохолно) и е някакъв такъв тип животно, което може да се срещне в терариум.

Не че нямам разделение на личността, ама другите ми части пишат все с моето име.

Също така тая чаша на бюрото ми не е водка, а натурален сок Sobieski.

Уморен съм.

I’m using megalan as ISP at home for two years, and can’t complain about the service – fast, stable, no brain-dead filters (except the limit of 100 parallel tcp connections, but that’s not a big problem and not so hard to work around). One thing is my problem with them, and that’s their support, especially the first level.

In the last two weeks at some point my connection drops – I can see the people in my segment, but not the gateway. So the first time was in the evening and I hit directly a level two support who when I told him my IP looked at something, mumbled a bit and everything got fixed in a jiffy. The next few times I hit level one, which had the following problems:
1) Giving out personal information. I tell them my IP address they ask “Are you Vasil Kolev, living here-and-here?”.
2) They don’t understand what’s being told to them. I say “I have no connection to your gateway, but can see the rest of the people in my segment”, and they keep asking me weird questions.
3) EVERY TIME they tell me to reboot. This especially gets on my nerves.
(reminds me of a case of ours with BTC, in which when the support has told one of our colleagues to restart the router, the colleague asks “Ok, and what about mu machine? Or all of the three hundred machines here?” (especially when the router is one of theirs and they have access to it) ).
(and on top of all this, last night after 12 nobody was picking up the phone, so I had to talk to them in the morning to fix the issue)

To be honest, I would pay a bit more every month for the privilege when I have a problem to be able to talk to someone who has an idea what she/he’s doing, not somebody that’s reading from a piece of paper, writes up the answers and doesn’t think at all (damn, even an IVR is a better idea)… Isn’t there the requirement that the first level support needs to have at least some networking clue?

It was about the same when I spoke with them two months ago on a problem with their routing – when I got renumbered last time, the connection between the office and home died (e.g. their new network was getting filtered somewhere near BTC). A few times I explained this to the support, in the end I had to get a bit nasty with the guy, so he send the information to the admins and the issue got fixed in half an hour.
(if someone is interested, I can upload the logs with my talks with the support on this problem)

So. Is it too much to ask to have an intelligent life form to answer me on the phone or the ICQ ?:)

От две години ползвам megalan като доставчик вкъщи, и не мога да се оплача от услугата – бързо, стабилно, няма малоумни филтри (само ограничение до 100 паралелни връзки, ама това нито много пречи, нито е трудно за заобикаляне). Едно нещо само ми е проблемно с тях, и това е support-а им, най-вече първото ниво.

Случва ми се в последните две седмици да ми резне нещо връзката – виждам хора из моя сегмент, но не и техния gateway. Съответно първия път беше вечер и попаднах на второ ниво support, който като си казах IP-то погледна нещо, помърмори малко и се оправи. В следващите пъти уцелвах level 1, които имаха следните проблеми:
1) Издават лична информация. Казвам си аз IP адреса и те ме питат – “Васил Колев, живеещ еди-къде си?”.
2) Не разбират какво им се говори. Аз казвам “нямам връзка до вашия gateway, но виждам другите хора в моя сегмент”, а те продължават да ми задават странни въпроси.
3) ВИНАГИ ми казват да рестартирам. Това специално ми лази по нервите.
(напомня ми един наш случай с БТК, в който след като support-а им беше казал на един колега да рестартира router-а, колегата беше казал “Добре, а да си рестартирам машината? Или всичките триста машини тука?” (при условие, че router-а е техен и те си имат достъп до него) ).
(И като капак на всичко, снощи след 12 никой не вдигаше телефона, та трябваше да си говоря с тях сутринта да ми оправят връзката).

Признавам си, вероятно бих плащал повече на месец, ако ми дават възможността като имам проблем да си говоря с някой, дето има идея от нещата, а не някой, дето чете от листче, записва отговорите и изобщо не мисли (сигурно даже един IVR би бил добра идея)… Няма ли изискване хората, дето вдигат телефона да имат поне някаква основна идея от мрежи?

По същия начин два месеца си говорих с тях за един проблем с техния routing – след като ме renumber-наха, връзката м/у машината вкъщи и офиса умря (т.е. новата мрежа на megalan се филтрираше ннякъде по пътя към БТК). Няколко пъти обяснявах на support-а за какво става въпрос, накрая се накарах на един и той все пак го предаде на администраторите и го оправиха за половин час.
(ако някой се интересува, мога да си кача логовете от разговорите с support-а по тоя проблем)

Та така. Толкова много ли е да очаквам интелигентна форма на живот да ми отговори по телефона или icq-то ?:)

I got in Krivoto at 19:00 and the people started coming, bringing gifts, etc.. Because the rest depends on them, I’ll describe the gifts (I can’t remember a lot, so please correct me :) )…

A wall clock that goes backwards from some colleagues (it’s already on the wall, screws up your mind :) );
Three bottles of wine (from Bilyana, Peruz, Iffi and someone else) and one bottle of whiskey from Nedyalkov;
Headphones from Vlado Karavelov (they really can make a hole in your head :) );
A lot of books, including “Vista for dummies” (from core-ix), “Problems of the rape in the Bulgarian penal code” (from Peio, he gave it to me with a rose in his mouth), Sex games (can’t remember from whom, but it was with a lot of giggling and I explained that I can write one), Pi’s life from Shopov, etc…
One 32MB 72pin SIM RAM, tangled with hair ties, from Stefan and Irina (who stole my old hair tie :) )
A set of illuminated sheep (there are also such start) to put on the ceiling, to count them and get to sleep easily;

A set of clothes handers for the bathroom that look like penguins, from Pentchev and Morvi (Katina was about to pass out when she saw them :) );

So everybody started showing up. My brother was officially assigned as DJ with chervarium, they played a lot of stuff and it the place was slowly filling. Here’s some stuff I can remember:

Before the event chervarium called me and asked which present do I want – the one that kills people or the other, that I can’t kill people with. Turned out that the other option was a wheelbarrow, so there was the idea to get my picture in such a cart with the chainsaw in one hand and the spear in the other, attacking people;
Some people again tormented my hair – two braids like princess Lea, at some point I was with one braid with a red band on it;
We sang a lot, especially Cherno Feredje (and Erinin sang the refrain of “Seliani” as “Bloggers” :) );
A lot of old acquaintances were discovered (for example Velyan (not Velin) had known Monkata for a long time);
I finally introduced Boyan Krosnov and Anton Titov (I have no idea why did I think that I’ve done that earlier);
People showed up and left all the time, so we didn’t fill the place (there were about 120 people invited);
My brother made a fan club there from the waitresses, because he was walking with his shirt off;
The dance of the drunk and fallen crocodile again tried to dig holes in the floor, with the tarambuka it went great;
I asked the waitress to keep the bill to see afterwards how much did we drink…
Chervarium’s back, waist and neck hurt from all the dancing (with me it’s just the neck);

I’m waiting for photos to be sent by some people.

Also, I won’t refuse to be reminded anything else that happened :)
