татко Крокодил

Деня беше свързан с бая ходене напред-назад – баща ми беше в София, та ходих до офиса, като по пътя минах да взема лаптопа, който ще правя за него. После се разходих с брат ми да хапнем, и след това до Цецо, за да взема записите от първия ден от Стара Загора, които правихме на неговия диск (59GB) (encode-ването ще го почна утре, на спокойствие). Вечерта инсталирах новия laptop, правя удобна потребителска машина (което не е нещо, с което съм свикнал :) , и после ще и пиша документация.

А сега ще взема да спя, че деня много ми дойде, повечето време бях с двата лаптопа на гръб, и си беше жега.

In the morning I got up with a headache and under-slept. I had a hard time time getting up and coming to life, but we managed to get at 11:10 to the hall, for me to start the live feed. Followed two lectures, which I didn’t listen to, because I felt really beat, and mostly stayed outside (I just made some comments on Sertys’ lecture), In the end I told everyone about WTH, and then followed the LPI exam.

At the exam itself I was the only one to try to take 201, the rest were on 101. It was again an interesting exam, with some questions that were pretty hard, but I think that I did it (and in the middle of the exam I got a horrible headache). We’ll see what I’ve done in a few weeks :)

Then we went back to Sofia. In the beginning there was some hail, which we waited to finish under a tree, then a heavy rain, some clearing of the sky, and near Pazardzhik – the biggest storm I’ve seen. There was a really strong wind, there was almost no visibility because of the rain, a lot of cars had stopped under the bridges to wait, and when we stopped at Shell – Pazardzhik to charge, we got really wet (in spite of the presence of the shed). There was something not normal in the storm (but the lightnings were great). I did some photos with Zhoro’s camera, he’ll probably be upload them soon.

In Sofia it was sunny… We saw another interesting view – 4 Lamborginies at the crossing ant NDK’s bridge, I managed to take some not-really-good photo of them, let’s see if it’s any good.

What a night.

We made a fun dinner, where we discussed fun things like a software video mixer, we spoke with Nasko on the topic of making presentations. After some nice drinking we decided to look for another pub, but we couldn’t find a good one, the company split, and me, Pipo, Anton and Rosen (the little one) sat in a snack shop, drank beers and spoke on whatever the topic leaned to (like the significance of learning mathematics)

At some point Zhoro, Emarald, Pentchev and co, together with Bobson (who wasn’t ok, and got some rest on the table while we were finishing out beers) showed up. Then with some efforts we helped Bobson reach the hotel, he went to sleep, and the rest of us gathered in our room, where right now Zhoro is playing some boring music.

I have no idea how much did I drink, but tonight’s record isn’t mine.

Сутринта станах с главоболие и недоспал. Едвам се освестих и изкъпах, и успяхме в 11:10 да се доберем до залата, за да пусна предаването на живо. Последваха две лекции, които аз не слушах, понеже се чувствах бая утрепан, и основно стоях навън (само на тази на Sertys направих малко забележки). Накрая разказах на хората за WTH, и последва LPI изпита.

На самия изпит само аз се явявах на 201, останалите на 101. Пак беше добър изпит, с разни въпроси, които наистина доста ме озориха, но мисля, че все пак се справих (освен всичко, по средата на изпита ме заболя зверски главата). Ще видим след няколко седмици какви съм ги свършил :)

Последва прибиране в София. В началото на пътя имаше малко градушка, която изчакахме да премине под едно дърво, последва силен дъжд, малко прочистване на небето, и около Пазарджик – най-голямата буря, на която съм присъствал. Духаше страшен вятър, от дъжда почти нищо не се виждаше, много коли бяха спрели под мостовете да изчакат, а като слязохме на Shell – Пазарджик да заредим, се намокрихме здраво (въпреки навеса). Имаше нещо ненормално в тая буря (но светкавиците бяха страхотни). Направих някакво количество снимки с апарата на Жоро, сигурно той ще ги качи по някое време.

В София пък си беше направо слънчево… Видяхме и друга интересна гледка – 4 Ламборждинита на кръстовището до моста на НДК, едвам успях да ги щракна, да видим дали е излязло нещо от снимката.

Ебаси вечерта.

Направихме една весела вечеря, на която обсъждахме интересни неща, например софтуерен видео смесител, и си говорехме с Наско на темата как се правят презентации. След приятно насмукване и хапване решихме да си търсим друга кръчма, но нещо не успяхме, компанията се раздели и аз, Pipo, Антон и Росен (малкия) седнахме в една закусвалня, да пием бирички, и да си говорим за какво ли не (за смисъла от ученето на математиката например).

По някое време се появиха Жоро, Emerald, Пенчев и компания, заедно с Бобсън, който не беше добре, и си почина на масата, докато допивахме поредните бири. После с дружни усилия му помогнахме да стигнем до хотела, той си легна да спи, а останалите се събраха в нашата стая, където в момента Жоро ни пуска скучна музика. Спи ми се.

Не знам колко пих, но съм сигурен, че рекорда от тая вечер не е мой.

In the morning I managed to get up somehow, after which we flew of from NDK to Stara Zagora, and managed to reach it for less than two hours… On the way we passed through a pretty serious rain, and saw something like a parade of old cars – there was even a “Chaika”. We managed also to write the first version of Nasko’s presentation.

At the seminar we managed to arrange and install the equipment on time, and began the transmission. There were problem, some drops in the line, and some weirdness either in the camera or the firewire interfaces, this one should be checked. I should write something useful that can download, buffer and show what’s on in the moment.

The lectures themselves were interesting – mine didn’t put anyone to sleep, the one on the course in TU was interesting, the one on spam too, now the only thing left is the one about OpenFMI, and we’ll be out drinking. The attendance is like the last year’s, probably because there’s a live feed, and some people are watching it remotely.

And on the remark that on my lecture I wasn’t green but yellow crocodile – there is a reason, and I explained in the beginning :)

Сутринта успях по някакъв начин да отлепя, след което от НДК излетяхме ниско към Стара Загора, в общи линии стигнахме за по-малко от два часа… По пътя минахме през един бая сериозен дъжд, и видяхме нещо като парад на старите коли – имаше даже една “Чайка”. Успяхме в движение и да на направим първия вариант на презентацията на Наско.

На семинара успяхме да разположим техниката в срок, и започнах предаването. Имаше си проблеми, пропадания на връзката, и разни странности или от камерата, или някъде из firewire интерфейсите, това трябва да го прегледам от какво беше. Трябва и да си направя нещо свястно, което може да сваля, буферира и показва какво върви в момента.

Самите лекции бяха интересни – моята не приспа хората, тази за курса в ТУ беше интересна, тази за spam-а също, сега остава да мине тази за OpenFMI, и отиваме да пием. Като посещаемост е нещо като миналата година, сигурно защото има предаване на живо, и някои хора го гледат отдалечено.

Колкото до забележката, че на моята лекция съм бил не зелен, а жълт крокодил – то си има причина, и я обясних в началото :)

The day passed mostly in walks through the musical stores, to look for the Irfan album (and we didn’t find it). If it turns out that the groups isn’t carrying, I’ll be ordering it through Dyukyan Meloman …

While going around with Bobson, we saw a poster for a concert of “Natural Born Wizards”, at the 29th in the evening, to promote the CD that accompanies a play based on a Pratchett book. Has someone heard something about this?

I’ll be going to sleep, tomorrow I have to get up really early.

Деня мина основно в разходка по музикалните магазини, да търсим албума на Irfan (и не го намерихме). Ако се окаже, че и групата не носи, ще се поръчва през Дюкян Меломан …

Докато обикаляхме с Бобсън, видяхме един афиш на “Natural Born Wizards”, концерт на 29 вечерта за промоция на диска към някаква българска постановка по книга на Пратчет. Някой да е чувал нещо по въпроса?

Аз отивам да спя, че утре ме чака бая ранно ставане.

Through the day we made tests of the video transmission from Stara Zagora – we have enough bandwidth, I described the streams. We’ll be broadcasting from zver, there will probably be enough bandwidth to listen from abroad.

In the evening we were to a Irfan concert, they turned to be a magnificent band – played mostly acoustic, their lead singer was singing at a half a meter from the microphone, and I wonder if she needed it. The music was nice and light, the only thing I’m sorry about is that we were too absent-minded to ask if we can find their released CD (tomorrow I’ll go to look in the music shops).

We killed off the evening in Divaka, where Nasko and Zdravko from TU came, to discuss their lecture at the seminar.

Now follows finishing the beer in the fridge, finishing the config of the laptop, and gathering of the stuff I’ll be carrying to Stara Zagora.

През деня правихме тестове на видео предаването от Стара Загора – имаме достатъчно bandwidth, аз описах потоците. Излъчването ще става от zver, вероятно ще има bandwidth от чужбина поне да се слуша.

Вечерта бяхме на концерт на Irfan, оказаха се невероятна група – концерта им беше почти акустичен, главната им певица пееше на половин метър от микрофона, и се чудя дали изобщо и трябваше. Музиката беше много приятна и лека, само ме е яд, че бяхме толкова отнесени и никой не пита дали можем някъде да им намерим издаденото CD (утре ще се разходя по музикалните магазини).

Доубихме вечерта в Дивака, където дойдоха Наско и Здравко от ТУ, за да обсъдим тяхната лекция за семинара.

Сега следва допиване на бирата в хладилника, донастройване на лаптопа, и събиране на куп на нещата, които ще нося до Стара Загора.

A hard day, with a lot of walking around and organizing all kinds of stuff. In the end most of the details about the filming of the seminars and some about the travel to it, I got a new laptop (more on it later), and managed to eat at the end of the day at IBB, I had forgotten through the day.

There are a few newly released books – the next two by Terry Goodkind and a parody – “The MCarthix derided” (which is pretty good :) ). Tomorrow the “Night watch” by Lukyanenko will be out…

The new laptop is called lyra, like the heroine from the books by Pullman (I expect a lot of jokes about me going to bed with a machine that’s female). Really nice, fast machine, with atll the needed extras – I did most of the installation, and have almost all that I need, tomorrow I’ll play with the dvgrab, the other tools, the transfer of files, etc…At some point I might go to the concert…

At some moments I’m amazed how some things happen in the net – turns out that Yordan Bozushki has found what I’ve written about “Slave to the freedom”… I wonder if now he’ll be interested to release it under a CC license, to add it to the other things at open-culture.net.

Тежък ден, с много обикаляне и организиране на всякакви неща. В крайна сметка уредихме повечето подробности около снимането на семинара и няколко около пътуването, аз си взех нов laptop (за него после), и успях накрая на деня да хапна на ИББ, че през деня бях забравил.

Има няколко нови излезли книги – следващите 2 на Тери Гудкайнд и една пародия – “Макатрицата” (която изглежда бая добра :) ). Утре излиза “Нощна стража” на Лукяненко…

Новия лаптоп се казва lyra (Лира), като героинята от книгите на Пулман (очаквам купища шеги на темата как си лягам с машина, дето и е от женски пол). Много хубава, бърза машина, със всичките нужни екстри – стигнах донякъде с инсталацията, повечето неща ги има, утре ще си играя с dvgrab-овете, разните допълнителни красоти, прехвърлянето на файлове и т.н. По някое време може и да ида на концерт …

На моменти се чудя лесно стават някои неща в мрежата – оказа се, че Йордан Бозушки е открил какво съм писал за “Роб на свободата”… Сега се чудя дали ще се заинтересува да пусне книгата под CC лиценз, и да я добавим към нещата на open-culture.net.

The core event of the day was a birthday (Tifa, grow even more beautiful :) ), which we celebrated with beer at the monument of the soviet army. It was fun, and after we drank the beer, we wen to “Gyuleto” (“The cannonball”) to eat a bit (where three people tried the pork ribs). Here are some photos from the event.

Основното събитие за деня беше един рожден ден (Tifa, още по-хубава да станеш :) ), който отпразнувахме с бира на паметника на съветската армия. Весело беше, а след като си изпихме бирата, се занесохме до “Гюлето” да хапнем малко (където 3ма човека тествахме порцията ребра). Ето и малко снимки от събитието.

I bought some tickets for Irfan, they cost 4 leva, and there were free seats, when I looked at the allocation. Tomorrow I’ll be going there again, because some people didn’t call early enough, let’s see if someone else will call until then (Pentchev, I mean you).

I drank today 2 bottles of Kamenica white, it isn’t bad, has a pretty nice taste.

In the evening there was a Balkandji concert, but I was unable to attend – the lover was visiting, we haven’t met each other for a long time (thankfully, we met last night at the concert :) ). Now the world looks a bit better :)

I printed general Grant’s memoirs, let’s see how interesting they will be (83 pages, compressed in 4 columns with 6pt font).

Изпих днес 2 бутилки Каменица бяло, не е лоша бирата, доста приятен вкус има.

Вечерта имаше концерт на Балканджи, ама аз не можах да ида – любовницата ми беше на гости, не бяхме се виждали от доста време (и добре, че се засякохме снощи на концерта :) ). Сега поне света изглежда малко по-добре :)

Different people, different misunderstandings… The mayor of the village near which “What the hack” will be happening is refusing to give a permit for it, because ‘the event could “endanger law and order as well as public safety”. Right now the organizers have decided to explain calmly to the man what’s this all about (a lot of people don’t get the meaning of the word ‘hack’, not to mention that it has a bit bloody meaning in some languages :) ). More information can be found at WTH’s forum, and at the official page about the problem. Right now there are articles at theregister.co.uk, 2600.com and ton of other sites, let’s see the result…
(the standard strategy with the delays and plastering over the problem isn’t going to work this time :) ).

Разни хора, разни неразбирателства… Кметът на селото, около което ще се провежда What the hack орказва да даде раздешение за провеждането му, понеже ‘събитието можело да застраши реда и законността’. В момента организаторите са решили да обяснят спокойно на човека за какво става въпрос (много хора не им е ясно значението на думата ‘hack’, да не говорим, че в някои езици тя си има собствено и малко кърваво значение :) ). Повече информация може да се намери във форума на WTH, и в официалната новина по темата. За момента има статии в theregister.co.uk, 2600.com и кило други места, да видим резултата…
(стандартните тактики с отлагане и замазване на положението определно няма да подействат тоя път :) ).

Not all Sundays are boring and sleepy…

I got in the morning at 10:30, come to my senses, got a bath, and went to the linux-bg seminar. I was again the first one there (this isn’t normal, I’m the one that likes to sleep the most), even the guards there were looking me weirdly what the hell am I doing there at 12, when the seminar is at 13 (they probably haven’t heard about preparations). I went through them with the excuse that I’m a techie :)

The seminar itself was pretty calm, there weren’t a lot of people (there are a lot of holidays now), there were the two planned lectures, we played a part of Lessig’s lecture at NBU (but it turned out that it’s not really good for that, the sound is bad), and in the end Salle made a Q&A session about MySQL. The seminar itself was broadcast live, tell me if there were problems with the reception.

Then we ate at Krivoto, went with Salle to Slaveykov and made him buy “No news from Gurb”,, I went through home to leave some stuff from my backpack, and went to see the concert at 3 ushi…

As usual, it started 1 hour late (the poster said that it will begin at 19:30). Three groups played – Wartime, Virus and Postscriptum.

Wartime played good, but they had problems with the sound and the guitars couldn’t be heard very well, so some of the songs didn’t sound right. Virus were really good, played some merry stuff, the vocalist sang pretty good, and in the end we had a really good moshing at “Mashina za meso” (“Machine for meat”) by Milena (I again dislocated my shoulder, and had to relocate it in the pogo). In the end Postscriptum played some boring things, mostly roar and beating, with some gleam here and there.
