Today I managed to get another copy of “No logo” (I had reserved it the day before in the “Penguins”). I really have no idea how low the total print of the books is, to be so hard to find (ok, I know that I’m somewhat responsible with the review I wrote, but come on…).

At the lecture in TU we managed to finish with the core explanations of the work in a console, about the shell scripting, etc, and showed some lines, that do some magic (like getting the list of unique shells from /etc/passwd). This time Delian Delchev was recording us with his camera, we’ll upload somewhere the recording after compressing it.

After that we went to the Club of the broken hearts, and discussed some of the problems about the lecture (like that we definitely need a bigger screen to project on, it’s not possible to see anything on this one), and a lot of other things – I managed to convince the people there that in the end it’s better for them to build their own network in the dormitories (the university is sponsoring them), not to outsource it to some company, etc. In the end, it’s not something hard, and they’ll have a chance to do something themselves, that they’ll use…. They told me some things about their networks, like how they don’t have DNS and DHCP, how the people there are supporting hosts files (helloooo, what year is this, 1980?). I wonder if it isn’t a good idea to write the core principles of building dormitory networks, and to put them on the walls of some of the blocks there, for the idea…

And a happy 8th of march to everyone in the female sex, who’s reading me :) Who doesn’t know what what this means – here’s an explanation.

Днес успях да си взема едно копие на “Без лого” (като си го бях запазил от предния ден в “Пингвините”). Направо не мога да си обясня в колко малък тираж трябва да са я издали, че да е толкова трудна за намиране (знам, че донякъде съм виновен с рецензията, която и написах, ама чак пък толкова…).

На лекцията в ТУ успяхме да довършим основните обяснения за работата в конзола, за shell scripting-а и т.н. и показахме няколко реда, които правят магии (например списъка с уникални shell-ове от /etc/passwd). Този път Делян Делчев ни записваше с камерата си, ще качим някъде записа, след като го компресираме.

След това се замъкнахме в Клуба на разбитите сърца, и обсъдихме разните проблеми моменти около лекцията (например, че определено ни трябва по-голям екран, на тоя нищо не се вижда), както и доста други неща – успях да убедя хората там, че е по-добре сами да си изградят мрежата в общежитието (университета им се е навил да даде пари), вместо да го дават на някоя фирма и т.н. В крайна сметка, не е особена магия, а и ще имат шанс да свършат нещо сами, което после те самите ще ползват… Разказаха ми и малко неща от мрежите си, как например нямат DNS и DHCP, как хората стигнали до там, че всеки да си поддържа hosts файл (алооо, коя година сме бре, 1980?). Чудя се дали не е добра идея да се опишат основни принципи на правене на мрежите в общежития, и да се разлепят по стените на някои блокове, за идеята…

А, и честит 8ми март на всичко от женски пол, което ме чете :) За който не знае точно какво значи празника – ето едно обяснение.

At last I got out for a walk (exactly by Murphy’s laws it was snowing heavily, but I didn’t care). I ate a pancake, took Bobson out for a walk, and we went out to look for “No logo” through the bookstores. We couldn’t find it anywhere, tomorrow they’ll bring in “The penguins”, but I found the other book by Naomi Klein, “Fences and windows”. We went through Batemberg square, to take a picture of this (translation – so much days left until Bulgaria is in the European Union)… The walk finished with a paunch soup in “Divaka”, to make me feel really alive :)

I took (and already watched) the second DVD of Red dwarf, which was as good as the first one (Bobson, prepare the next one :) ).

Най-накрая излязох да се разходя (по закон на Мърфи валеше силно сняг, ама не ми пукаше…). Изядох една палачинка, измъкнах Бобсън да го разходя, и тръгнахме да търсим “Без лого” по книжарниците. Нямаше я никъде, утре ще я донесат в “Пингвините”, но за сметка на това намерих другата книга на Наоми Клайн, “Огради и прозорци”. Минахме покрай пл. Батемберг, за да снимам ето това… Разходката я завърших в “Дивака”, с една шкембе чорба, за да се почувствам съвсем жив :)

Взех (и вече изгледах) второто DVD на Red dwarf, което се оказа на нивото на първото (Бобсън, приготви следващото :) )

For third day in a row I’m at home, I’m pissed. Tomorrow I’ll have breakfast somewhere else (too bad they’ve finished with the cabling in Studentski grad, I didn’t feel well enough to go). To cheer up a bit I stated exercising juggling with the 5-kilogram weights, it turned out to be really interesting (and pretty painful at some moments). I was also able to read my mail (2000 messages in lkml…) – now I can read easily, without losing the meaning somewhere in the middle.

Трети ден си стоя само вкъщи, писна ми. Утре ще закусвам навън (жалко, че днес са свършили с окабеляването в Студентски град, аз нямах сили да ида). За разнообразие започнах да упражнявам жонглиране с 5-килограмовите гирички, оказа се доста интересно (и болезнено в някои моменти). Успях и да си изчета пощата (2000 съобщения в lkml…) – вече мога да чета спокойно, без да ми се губи смисъла по средата.

Last night before sleeping I watched “Saw”, which my brother recommended, and turned out to be a pretty good movie (not really appropriate for getting to sleep for normal people :) ). Looks like there are still good horror movies :)

Somewhere around noon Bobson came, and we watched some episodes of “Red dwarf”, a really good sci-fi series from the 80ties, I really laughed a lot, I’m now waiting for the second DVD.

I hope that I’ll be better tomorrow, to go to eat somewhere outside, living two days on semi-manufactured soups isn’t normal.

Снощи за приспиване гледах “Saw”, което брат ми ми препоръча, и се оказа в общи линии доста добър филм (не е подходящ за приспиване на нормални хора :) ). Имало още хляб във филмите на ужасите…:)

През деня дойде Бобсън, и с него изгледахме едно количество епизоди на “Red dwarf”, много добър научно-фантастичен сериал от 80те, бая се смях, сега го чакам да донесе второто DVD.

Надявам се утре да съм се пооправил, и да изляза да ям някъде навън, да изкараш 2 дни на полуготови супи не си е работа.

In the morning I went to a doctor at least, who found some kind of virus in me, and prescribed me a ton of medication, which I’m taking now. In the next few days I won’t go out, I’ll just lie calmly, eat soup, and be lazy (e.g. nothing will change :) ). It’s good that Velin went home to Pazardzhik until Sunday, I hope I haven’t infected him.

I keep hating being sick – I compiled 2.6.11 and just can’t get to installing it, having no idea what will I mess up.

After I get better, I’m changing my bank – UBB sent me spam, which consisted of 3 .doc files, and in the letter itself you can easy see the list of the receipts. Idiots.

Честит 3ти март на всички! :)

Сутринта най-накрая отидох на лекар, и ми откриха някакъв вирусен грип, за който доктора ми предписа ударна доза лекарства, които в момента пия. В следващите няколко дни няма да излизам, ще си лежа спокойно, ще си хапвам супи, и ще мързелувам (т.е. няма да има особена разлика с живота ми досега… :) ). Добре, че и Велин се прибра в Пазарджик до неделя, надявам се да не съм го заразил.

Продължавам да мразя да съм болен – компилирал съм си 2.6.11 и не смея да го инсталирам, че не знам каква ще я свърша.

След болестта съм решил да си сменя банката – ОББ ми пратиха спам, който представляваше 3 .doc файла, а в самото писмо можеше лесно да се види списъка на получателите. Идиоти.

Did I mention that it sucks to be sick?
(yes, this will be mostly ranting)

I got up wit 37.8 temperature, and in some way managed to get to the store for food (because I haven’t eaten a lot, and the neuralgia was calling) and to the pharmacy (turns out that there’s amidophen anywhere, and they gave me liquid analgin). I drank a dose of 2 aspirins, 2 liquid analgins, a fervex and a vitamin C, napped a little, and after that I tried to do something.

I managed to create a mailing list for Peio (good thing that it’s just 3-4 commands), and tried some reading. In my condition it’s awfully hard to concentrate on something and think. Now I’m thinking about Valery’s idea, to sweat a lot, to get a shower, to drink another such dose, and to sleep…

p.s. If someone is using gaim, and has problems with receiving messages from some clients (e.g. gaim says ” (There was an error receiving this message. The buddy you are speaking to most likely has a buggy client.)”), it can easily be fixed with a touching of a line in the source, if someone’s interested, I’ll upload a patch somewhere.

Споменах ли, че да си болен е гадна работа?

Станах с 37.8 температура, и по някакъв начин успях да ида до магазина за провизии (понеже не бях ял много, и невралгията се обаждаше) и до аптеката (оказа се, че амидофена е спрян от производство, и ми дадоха течен аналгин). Изпих една ударна доза от 2 аспирина, 2 течни аналгина, един фервекс и един витамин C, дремнах малко, и след това правех опити да свърша нещо.

Успях да създам една листа за Пейо (добре, че беше въпрос на 3-4 команди), и правих опити да чета. В това си състояние обаче ми е адски трудно да се съсредоточа и да обмислям нещо. Сега обмислям идеята на Валери, да се препотя, да си тегля един душ, да изпия една подобна ударна доза, и да спя …

p.s. Ако някой ползва gaim, и има проблеми с получаването на съобщения от разни клиенти (т.е. gaim-а казва ” (There was an error receiving this message. The buddy you are speaking to most likely has a buggy client.)”), може много лесно да се оправи с пипване на един ред в source, ако някой се интересува, ще пусна patch.

It sucks to be sick.

I managed to go out for a while through the day, to buy some medicine, and came home really tired. I also found out that the “Bulgara” album still isn’t released, and that “No logo” can’t be found anywhere (what, I wrote it a review, and everyone bought it?). After I got home, I drank a double dose fervex, and fell asleep, so now I’m blogging from the bed…

Да си болен е гадна работа.

Успях да изляза за малко през деня, за да си напазарувам малко лекарства, и се прибрах съвсем скапан. Открих сщо и че албума на “Булгара” още не е излязъл, и че никъде не може да се намери “Без лого” (какво, след като и написах рецензия, хората са я изкупили ли?). След като се прибрах, изпих двойна доза фервекс, и директно заспах, та сега блогвам от леглото…

Lost night I wasn’t able to blog, I had no strength left – came home, and fell in the bed…

The lecture in TU again overflowed the hall, and me and Zhoro got there a bit late because of the traffic jams (and maybe also because of the habbit the lecture to begin in 19:15, not 19:00). This time we had some audio equipment (but I out of habit spoke like there wasn’t a mike), an audio recording of the lecture (which should show up on the site pretty soon), and was fun as usual. Next lecture will probably be in two hall simultaneously, and we’ll transmit live video to the second one, so I’ll start gathering the equipment… The organization and the setting up will be a hard task, because most of the week is non-working, and the tests will have to be done Monday, a few hours before the lecture.

In the evening I went to “Balkandji” at Fans, where I met Binis and Nushinka, who I haven’t seen for a long time, listened and and rocked to the music, fun as always. I’ve became something like a culture guide to Pentchev, he was at this concert too, and was really pleased :)

(and I’m still sick, and have more tea to drink)

And the last thing – does someone has any idea who this guy is, and what he wants? It’s not the first time I see him scanning…

Снощи не блогнах, понеже нямах никакви сили, прибрах се, и си паднах в леглото….

Лекцията в ТУ пак препълни залата, а ние с Жоро малко закъсняхме заради задръстванията (изглежда и навика лекциите да почват в 19:15, не в 19:00 ни повлия). Този път имахме озвучителна техника (пусти навик, аз пак говорех все едно нямам микрофон), запис на аудиото на самата лекция (който скоро трябва да се появи на сайта), и беше весело както винаги. Очертава се следващата лекция да е в 2 зали едновременно, и от едната да предаваме директно видео в другата, та смятам да се заема тия дни с уреждането на техниката… Организацията и наместването ще бъдат сложна задача, понеже по-голямата част от седмицата е почивна, и тестовете ще трябва да ги правим в понеделник, няколко часа преди лекцията.

Вечерта отидох на “Балканджи” във Fans, където се видях с Бинис и Нушинка, които отдавна не бях виждал, слушахме и дивяхме на музиката, беше си весело както винаги. Аз съм станал като културен гайд на Пенчев, той беше и на тоя концерт, и остана много доволен :)

(а аз още не съм се оправил съвсем, имам още чай да пия)

И последно – някой да има идея кой е този, и за какво се бори? Не за пръв път го виждам да сканира…

Today I fixed an ugly problem with zver.fsa – turns out that courier-mta doesn’t like mail that doesn’t conform exactly to RFC2045, and if you send UFF8 directly in the mail (even if you’ve specified the right encoding), he resends the mail as an attached text file, with the explanation that the mail is invalid. I haven’t seen such a problem until now, but in the end I fixed it with a bit of digging … I also found out that it was easier and nicer to find where in the source was the message generated, and to trace from there the option that affects it. It’s a pleasure to work with nicely written software :)

In the evening I was at the “Bulgara” concert. I’m not saying anything more about them, someone could think that they’re paying me when I’m praising them so much :) A lot of people came to the concert, including Pentchev (who in the end was left with his jaw hanging :) ). Now what’s left is to find the album (it should be released at 01.03, but it’s not clear where exactly).

Днес оправих един неприятен проблем със zver.fsa – оказа се, че courier-mta не харесва поща, която не отговаря точно на RFC2045, и ако например изпратите UTF8 директно в писмото (даже и да сте описали правилния encoding), той хваща самото съобщение, и го препраща като attach-нат текстов файл, с обяснение, че всъщност това писмо е леко невалидно. Не бях срещал такъв проблем досега, но в крайна сметка го оправих, с малко ровене… Открих и че ми беше доста по-лесно и приятно да намеря къде в source се генерира това съобщение, и да проследя оттам опцията, която му влияе. Удоволствие е да се работи с хубаво написан софтуер :)

Вечерта бях на концерта на “Булгара”. Нищо няма да кажа повече за тях, защото някой вероятно би си помислил, че ми плащат, щом ги хваля толкова :) Дойдоха доста хора, включително и Пенчев (който накрая остана направо оцъклен :) ). Сега остана и да им издиря албума (който по последна информация излиза на 1.03, ама не е ясно къде точно ще излезе).

Today at the anime meeting we gathered in Deep down (or some name like that), to play an anime movie. We watched “Mind game”, a really good but damn weird movie – I can’t even try to explain it, whomever wants, can watch it :) The place itself was really nice (and deep) basement, had a good audio equipment, and a big enough screen to project on.

I finished reading “Surely you’re joking, mr. Feynman”, a great autobiographical book by Richard Feynman, physicist, Nobel award laureate, and in fact a damn interesting guy. Bobson gave it to me to read, so I have no idea where could it be found.

And a little spam – Sunday at 23:00 “Bulgara” will be playing at “Swinging hall” Come, I think you won’t be sorry :)

(Grigor wrote some really good stuff in his blog about the addictable and the non-addicatable persons, and I’m from the first type – I get psyched about a few things every month, like in the moment I can’t stop listening to a few songs by Zdob si Zdub, and probably only the Bulgara concert will pull them out of my head (for a while).)

Днес на аниме срещата се събрахме в Deep down (или нещо такова беше като име), да си прожектираме някое аниме. Гледахме “Mind game”, много добър, но и адски странен филм – не се наемам да обяснявам нищо за него, който иска, да го гледа :) Самото място беше доста приятно (и дълбоко) мазе, с достатъчно добро озвучаване, и голям екран, на който да прожектираме.

Изчетох “Surely you’re joking, mr. Feynman”, страхотна автобиографична книга на Ричард Фейнман, физик, носител на нобеловата награда, и всъщност страшно интересен човек. На мен ми я даде Бобсън да я прочета, не знам иначе къде може да се открие.

И като един малък спам – в неделя от 23:00 “Булгара” ще свирят в “Swinging hall”. Елате, най-вероятно няма да съжалявате :)

(хубаво писа Григор в блога си за пристрастяващите се и непристрастяващите се, аз съм от първите – вманиачавам се в няколко неща на месец, сега например не мога да спра да слушам няколко парчета на Zdob si Zdub, и сигурно само концерта на Булгара ще ми ги извади (за известно време) от главата.)
